1.Introduction
We start by showing you the steps to draw a cup using solid works:
4
Step 2: Set the dimensions to millimeters as showing in Fig2.2.
5
Step 4: Make a decagon circumscribed with circle dia51.36mm as showing in Fig2.4.
6
Step 6. Top Plane>>Sketch.
7
Step 8. Extruded Cut the circle inside the decagon with 62 mm depth as shown in
Fig2.8.
Step 9. On the other side of the decagon start a sketch. Normal View to sketch. as showing
in Fig2.9.
8
Step 10. Make a circle with 40 mm diameter as showing in Fig2.10.
Step 11. Under features tab select Extruded Cut and Change extrude depth to 4mm.
The draft angle to 20degree. Click OK.
9
Step 12. Front Plane>>Sketch as showing in Fig2.12.
Step 13. Sketch the handle of the cup on the right side of the cup as showing in
Fig2.13.
10
Step 14. Trim the dimension lines of handle as sowing in Fig2.14.
Step 15. Create reference plane coincident to the end point of the arc and
perpendicular to arc of the handle as showing in Fig2.15.
11
Step 16. Plane 1>>Sketch as showing in Fig2.16.
Step 17. Make a circle with 7 mm diameter centered at the end point of the arc of the
handle as showing in Fig2.17.
12
Step 18. Under features Select swept then select the circle and the arc of the handle
then select ok as showing in Fig2.18.
13
And here the 2D drawing sheet for the product as shown in fig2.20
3. 3D Printing process
We will show you the steps of converting solidworks file into a STL format that can
be processed by Cura software and then print the product by using a 3D printer:
Step 1: In soldworks, save the file as STL file in the same folder as shown in Fig3.1.
14
Fig3.1: Saving the file as STL file
15
Step3: Set the position to X:0 Y:0 Z:0 as showing in Fig3.3.
Step4: Rotating the work piece and make the cup upward as showing in Fig3.4 and
Fig.
16
Step 5: Under Profile we added the
print setup as showing in Fig3.5 and
here is the setup sitting:
-Layer height :0.25mm
-Wall Thickness:0.5mm
-Top/Bottom thickness:0.6mm
-Infill density:5%
-Printing temperature:200 C
-Build plat temperature:30 C
-Print speed:75mm/s
build plate adhesion type: Brim
17
Infill pattern: Lines
Wall thickness: 0.5 mm
Infill density: 5%
Step 6: Save the file in gcode format after that the file is ready to be printed in the 3D
printer.
18
Step 7: Coping the gcode file into a memory card and then insert it into the 3D printer.
Step 8: Inserting the memory card in the 3D printer and fixe the Nozzle and the Bed
temperature and the Printing speed and then clicking start as showing in Fig3.8.
19
As showing in Fig3.10, the printing process is been completed.

We are not satisfied with the final product because the cup we made has gapes
between its layers and it will not do the job of a cup since the liquid will leak out but
the dimensions of the cup is still accurate and we believe the reason for the gapes is
because of the high speed print we set and we could have avoided this problem if we
have made the thickness of the walls higher like 1mm or even 2mm or if we made the
density 100% then the cup will turn out perfectly and we have noticed that the cup is
not very durable and the reason is because the density and thickness of the cup are
low and we could have made the cup more durable if we made the cup thicker or if we
made the density 100% and we have noticed that the surface of the cup is not very
smooth because the 3D printer moves in layers and it moves 0.25mm vertically and
0.4mm horizontally and the bottom of the cup has very small bump because when we
were removing the cup from the printer bed using the scraper we hit the cup by
accident.
5. Conclusion.
In conclusion, using solidworks and Cure software is a very productive method that
we have followed to print out a cup using a 3D printer and the final product did not
satisfy our requirements because of the reasons that we mentioned in the discussion.
