Hi everyone my name is monserrat and today i'm going to talk about cats in ancient egypt. Um, first
it's important to know that the ancient egyptian civilization was more developed than others of its time
in terms of equality and respect. one example is the role of women in the civilization although
egyptians thought women and men were different they thought women could complement their role of
men unlike other civilizations where women just had the same rights as children. for example we can
then understand why their vision as a society was really unique at its time.

To understand why they worship cats that much we have to know that they really respect any kind of
life this was influenced by the idea they had of the universe. this idea was portrayed by their goddess
Matt who represented it through the justice and the cosmic harmony. Egyptians didn't think of humans
as the most powerful creatures, instead they thought humans animals and plants were at the same level
and all of them should respect each other. as a result of this vision they knew a lot about animals. they
respected them, took care of them and even some of their gods have animal features.

But the relationship with cats was a bit more special. scientists have discovered that many of today's
domestic cats are descendants from cats who live thousands of years ago in asian egypt since
egyptians diet was based on grains they had to be really careful and avoid plagues. cats became really
helpful when egyptians discovered their hunting tactics and efficiency they could keep mice far from
their food and poisonous snakes out of their homes. egyptians really admired the cat's skills and
intelligence so they were often joined by their cats when they went out for food.

On the other hand in ancient egypt cats were often considered magical creatures who brought good
luck to the people they lived with. they were closely associated with many of the gods egyptians
worshipped and have even been considered demigods. cats were the sacred and exalted species of the
egyptians. they saw them as part of their families and were really loved and unearthed. when a cat died
egyptians will mourn deeply mummify them and make sure it receives a proper burial. they often
painted morals of their cats offer lavish gifts and pray to these animals certain gods in ancient egypt
either featured cat body parts or had the ability to morph into a cat.
 Bast for example is one of the most well known of the egyptian goddess. she embodied all the
characteristics of cats such as playfulness grace and her craftiness. temples were home to many cats
and to harm a cat was considered and it sold to these goddess. that's why killing a god was punished
with death in ancient egypt. cats were definitely really important for ancient egyptians not only
because of the role they are played in their religion but also because they were seen as loyal

4. VIDEO 128 - Marianna Malfarà: History's biggest art thefts

Good morning, my name is Marianna and today I will be speaking about some of history's biggest art
thefts. So art theft is also known as "art napping" and it is the stealing of paintings and sculptures from
either museums or galleries, because while most high profile galleries and museums have very tight
security, there are many others that have very poor security measures, making them a lot more
susceptible to theft. Unfortunately for the thieves selling stolen artwork is extremely complex and this
is due to many different reasons one of them being the fact that usually a potential buyer would know
that the artwork in question has been stolen, and as a buyer displaying said artwork to visitors is very
risky as someone may recognize the painting and call authorities.

There are other cases of theft, we can say, for example the antiquities, which are considered national
treasures by their country of origin. Throughout the years this these have caused many cases of
controversy. An example would be the case of the Elgin Marbles; this is definitely not the only case,
there are many similar controversies for Aztec, Etruscan and Italian artwork as well. So starting with
one of the biggest art thefts of all time which occurred on the 21st of august 1911 when Vincenzo
Perugia decided to steal the Mona Lisa.

Vincenzo was a worker who had been hired by the Louvre itself. The French authorities were able to
retrieve the painting after two years. They mistakenly hauled in the Paul Guillaume Apollinaire as well
as the painter Pablo Picasso. But, as I said, they were able to retrieve the painting only two years later
when Vincenzo Perugia tried contacting an art dealer in Florence claiming he was in possession of the
painting. The police arrested him and what he claimed was that what drove him to steal the painting in
the first place was his patriotism-- his Italian patriotism and his desire for the painting to be returned to
its homeland.

Another definitely very widely known art theft, or art thefts to be more precise, are the ones
regarding the paintings by the Norwegian painter Edvard Munch. So it is a fortune that-- is was very
fortunate that the painter decided to create various, several iterations of the painting The Scream,
because two of them have fallen into the hands of art thieves in the past two decades. So, the first one
occurred in February of 1994 when four men broke into the National Art Museum in Oslo. They stole
the painting and they left a note thanking the museum for the poor security. Also, the second theft
occurred um in the Monk Museum in 2003, so quite recently, when gunman, gunmen -excuse me-
entered the museum during opening hours. They not only stole the second iteration of the painting, but
also the Madonna painting.

Now, the both of them were estimated of a value of 19 million dollars, and they were some of the
most valuable paintings of the museum's collection. The paintings were later retrieved and, although
they were damaged, it was announced that they would be able to be repaired. So uh these were only
some of the biggest art thefts in history, I hope you've enjoyed and I thank you for watching.

5. The future of Criminal Justice in the US

Good morning everybody! My name is Chiara and today I want to talk to you about a possible future
scenario with reference to criminal justice in the U.S.

The pandemic has led to the pause on jury trials, to court delays and this resulted in extra months in
jail for many unconvicted defendants. And this is unfair, particularly for those who are still
incarcerated just because they cannot afford the bail. Another issue which involves the US court
system in its entirety is going to be the massive number of trials to be held once it will be allowed.
And even when the court system is rebooted, how will it be possible to go back to the courtrooms in
compliance with the new rules of social distancing which are now required as a consequence of
coronavirus and are aimed to limit the risks of transmission deriving from a potentially packed
courtroom.
 In this light, all sorts of courtroom experiments are being carried out all through the U.S. at the
moment. On the one hand, a possible solution is constituted by social distance in-person jury trials, on
the other hand, looking back to see how a similar situation was dealt with in the past, another
possibility may consists in open-air court hearings, as it happened during the Spanish flu. Well these
are possible solutions in order for trials to be carried out in person, once the state of emergency will
have come to an end.

Nevertheless, a third possible solution are jury trials conducted via teleconference. This third option
would be an unprecedented innovation in legal terms and the obstacles that hold the US-- the US court
system, sorry, from adopting fully remote jury trials as a solution till now have been of two main
different natures: ethical and logistical. As far as the problem of fairness is concerned, the skepticism
of the court system towards the use of remote tools in legal proceedings is due to the unique benefits
of physical presence as it was stated in 2018 by the US 7th Circuit Court of Appeals.

What is more, another obstacle consists in the so-called confrontation clause, which is to be found in
the sixth amendment and guarantees the criminal defendants the right to be confronted with the
witnesses against him, if not in some certain narrow circumstances, such as the case of an underage
abuse victim who wishes to stay anonymous and we might add such as the case of a pandemic. It is
also worth specifying that the real innovation refers to fully remote jury trials, because some judge
only insurance cases that happened already by videoconference. Not only that, some of the least
consequential hearings with the consent of the defendant are also being allowed to unfold remotely.
I'm talking about some civil procedures, grand juries and summary juries, as well as some
arraignments and preliminary hearings.

But the issue remains from more consequential hearings. The less consequential hearings we
mentioned, are low risk in comparison with full-scale criminal trials which, nonetheless, happen to be
the most urgent to hold, as well as the most controversial. So what about the potential logistical issues
which might undermine these more consequential hearings. First, let us take a step back for a moment,
let us step back for a moment and see how these video chat juries might work. In fact, the NCSC,
which is the National Center for State Courts, has already published a tentative framework for how
this rebooted juries might look. They might in fact take place using Zoom, with the jurors voting with
Zooms raise hand feature and there would be an IT team chat, with jurors in advance to check the
quality of their connection, the Wi-Fi connection I mean.

That is to say, truly remote jury trials seem at least theoretically a viable option if we agree on the

6. Guerilla Girls

Hi ladies and gentlemen, to start my stage I've got a question for you: What is the best most surefire
way for a woman to get displayed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York? This exact
question was asked by feminist art Punk pioneers, the guerrilla girls. When they formed 35 years ago
in 1985, the guerrilla girls are a group of activists committed to exposing inequality in the art World,
particularly sexism and racial inequality.

The guerrilla girls are characterized by wearing in gorilla masks and using pseudonyms of famous
female artists of the past for example one of the family members was called Frida Kahlo and there
were also members called kathe Kollwitz after a 19th century German artist and zabita Agha who was
a modern Pakistani artist that died in 1997. originally the group had planned on wearing ski masks
however due to a mix-up between gorillas the primate and gorilla the fighting tactic they chose the
gorilla mask and so the … protest that we know today was born.

These women wanted to hide their identities to protect themselves as they thought that their careers
would have been hurt if people knew they were part of this movement the founding member who goes
by the name of Frida Kahlo said about the founding that we didn't have a plan we were just pissed off
and they had every reason to be angry. In 1985 in New York City only one museum had an exhibition
by a female artist and while less than 5% of the artists on display in modern art sections of the Met
were female over 85% of the new artworks were of women.

The guerrilla girls have created a series of artworks to protest this which included stickers which was
stuck in lamp posts throughout New York as well as posters that were placed up, some of these have
become incredibly famous works of art themselves. for example, do women have to be naked in order
to get into the mat museum which I quoted statistics from earlier as well as campaigns such as female
by both feminists by choice and satirical sarcastic posters such as the advantages of being a female
artist which included such tongue-in-cheek reasons as whatever art you make will be labeled as
feminine or you get to work without the pressure of success and even you get to have the opportunity
to choose between your career and motherhood. some of these works of art have themselves become
very prolific and desirable in fact in the Tate Modern in London there is a permanent collection of
these posters and the artwork has also been shown at the Venice Biennale however while the gorilla
Gosselin sales may have been gaining fame and notoriety the situation for female artists hasn't
improved very much.

Recently the Whitney Museum in New York sang their praises at the fact that 30 percent of their new
collection was by female artists Carly simply said well that's great but what about the upper 20%
furthermore when comparing the data they took in 1985 over today - they then collected in 2014 they
found that now while every will each of the four majör museums in New York had an exhibition by a
female artist it was just the one and that now less than 4% of the art on display in the modern art
sections of the Met were by female artists yet 76% of the nude artworks were still of women. in
conclusion if you think back to the question I asked you at the beginning what's the easiest most
surefire way for a women to get displayed in the mats then I hope you realize now that the answer is
incredibly simple she just has to take off her clothes thank you for listening.

7. Cultural Exchange

Hello so today I'm going to speak a little bit about culture. it's changed the I took part in when I was
15 so during my third year of high school I took French as one of my subjects and I really enjoyed it.
I've always enjoyed languages and yeah I had a really good French class. we all got on very well so I
was very lucky that way and one day during my French class my teacher came up to me and said
“Luke I know that you're staying at home in Aberdeen this summer” because during the class we'd all
been discussing and what we were going to be doing with our summer holidays and so she knew that I
happened to be staying home, so she said to me if you're bored and looking for something to do and
I've got a friend in France whose daughter is looking to come over and spend some time here in
Scotland.

She wants to improve her English so would you be interested in hosting her for a week or two and so
I gave it some thought I went home and discussed it with the rest of my family and they were on board
with the idea they were very supportive and so the next day I got the contact details from my teacher
off this lady and her daughter and as a family we contacted them we send them an email just with a
little bit about ourselves and about the city I'm from and what we were planning to do with our
summer and they responded and said that they were glad that someone was happy to host and yeah
that they were very excited by the idea.

And they also suggested I could come and spend some time in France then return to improve my
French. now this was quite daunting to me and because my French was not a very high level you know
I knew the basics so I could talk about my family, I could talk about the sort of typical topics that you
learn in school such as sports, food and drink, school subjects so I could talk about things in that area
but actually talking about like day-to-day living things I thought I'd struggle more with and so I was a
little bit worried about the language barrier.

But nonetheless I decided it was too good an opportunity to miss and so we planned a two-week
period where this girl Tina from France would come and spend a week with me and my family in
Scotland and then we'd both fly to her hometown of Marseilles in the South of France and I would
spend a week with her and so July rolls around and this is exactly what happened one day in July. my
mum and I went to the airport and picked up Tina and she was lovely we'd been messaging a little bit
in the months leading up to it so I already knew a little bit about her and so we had some things to talk
about which was good it made things easier for us and her English was also quite good so that made
communication easy.

My parents speak a little bit of French but we used English all the time when she was staying with
me and you know it's a good time I took her to meet some of my friends and we also took her to the
Highland Games which she loved because it was something very Scottish and I had an equally
amazing time in France. I spent a lot of time at the beach which is lovely because it wasn't too sunny
in Scotland that summer and so it was nice to go somewhere where I could catch a little bit of Sun and
yeah she showed me what my say is like I got to meet her family obviously you were lovely. and
overall it was a really good experience I think living with someone even if it's just for a short period of
time like a week where it's more like holiday I think it's really good because it gives you an idea of
what their cultures like and obviously improved my language skills quite a bit and it pushed me out of
my comfort zone so yeah overall I'd say doing a cultural exchange was a really positive experience for
me and I'd recommend it to anyone he's thinking of doing one I think especially at the age of 15 it was
a big thing for me I've never flown by myself and I although I had spent a week or two without my
parents before I don't really go on to another country by myself like that before but it was it was very

8. NZ Volcano Eruption

Hello today I will be speaking a little bit about the island of Hikari also known as white island and so
Bakari is the Maori name and it translates as the dramatic volcano which is exactly what this island is
and the island sits on the east coast of New Zealand's North Island at precisely 11 minutes past 2:00 in
the afternoon local time on 9th December 2019. the volcano had a fatal eruption so the volcano itself
is New Zealand's largest volcano however most of the volcano actually sits below sea level the section
above sea level forms the island and this stretches 2 kilometers in diameter and rises to 321 meters in
altitude since 1976 it has been New Zealand's most continuously active volcano with low level activity
and small eruptions regularly occurring.

However the island is also a tourist hotspot with trips the island running on most days so trips run
either by air or by sea those going by sea will be put in a small boat these tours are run by tour
operators and so tourists will be put in a small boat that will sail across the bay of plenty the boat will
then dock nearby or carries shore and dinghies are used to get the tourists to the shore from the boat
once on shore Druce are split into smaller groups and given a mask and a hard hat to wear and then
alongside their guide they track up to the rim of the volcano's crater they cure the rim and then return
down to the shore of Hikari before making the return journey to New Zealand's North Island.

Those that go by air will be put in a small helicopter and this will fly across the Blue Bay of Plenty
landing nearby volcano's crater passengers … off and similarly to the butchers they to the rim of the
crater and then get back on board the helicopter and make the return journey and these tours are run by
tour operators and they've been approved to run these tours to the island this because the island is
privately owned so access is only given to these tour operators unfortunately with the eruption on
night 2 December occurring in the afternoon it was peak visiting time for the island and is believed
that at the time of the eruption 47 people were visiting the island. now off those 47 and 20 if those
people have been confirmed as having passed away and another two were missing and presumed dead.

However on 23rd January 2020 they have also been confirmed dead by the coroner and so as such 22
toto were sadly killed by the eruption and with the remaining 25 tourists that were on the island three
suffered minör injuries and the remaining 22 that suffered more severe injuries such as burns and
severe respiratory problems this island has been known for having ongoing volcanic activity however
it has been low level until now but since the eruption earth nights December 2019 altars have been
cancelled to the island. yes thank you very much for listening.

10. Camp America Experience

In January 2018 I'd say to apply for the camp America program I had just turned 18. I'm old enough
to go that's just something I had dreamed of doing since I was a little girl. I made the spot of the
moment decision to apply I went through all the online application process for my application to
online, four camps all over America to see and I seed my skills and qualifications which included
music, photography and sports. leadership which I had achieved at school I attended the recruitment
fair that dynamic earth and Edinburgh ice is mere camps from all over America come to recruit staff.

Once for I have about did not get pleased that that recruitment bear my application went live online
and then it was just a waiting game I was interviewed by two camps one in Chicago and one in
Massachusetts. however I didn't feel like these camps were the one for me so I hummed them daily in
the 7th of March to those in the nineteen I was contacted by the account that would become my second
home. I had to Skype interviews with the director and on the spot he hired me and it was just a game
of getting prepared to go over to the USA I had to follow a lot of people including police checks
medical forms and 91 visa formats two days develop I also had to go down to London to go to the
American Embassy and order to get my visa. that's been a fun trip that with my mom we went to see a
West End show after the embassy and did open in London for the night.

I also spent a lot of time on our facebook group chat with the other staff that were going to my camp
we used us to get to know each other before we flew over I also had to buy unpack a load of summer
clothes and I packed way too much one of the end I have to go to camp I was so excited but so
nervous I was going to a strange place but people I had never met before. to spend nine weeks their
light was a direct flight from Edinburgh to JFK Airport in New York City the flight took around seven
hours and it was the first time I had ever been on a the plane by myself can … that JFK all the other
staff were there waiting and there was around 80 people from my camp there … that means the bus to
take us all to camp we go on the bus and it took in only two hours to get to camp by the same unit here
we are all have been away for almost 24 …so we would exhausted I was hired at Camp Hollywood
what she's a Jewish sleepaway camp and a very small thing called Madison in the state of clear
together like at last count was four kids it's five to fifteen I can't put the range of definitely with use
from high ropes courses: soccer basketball music drama swimming arts and crafts and so many more
activities.

We have two swimming pools and the massive leak where the kids can go canoeing, kayaking and
we even have inflatables in the lake we also had a little lake which is right in the middle of camp
where we have family of large snapping turtles we had the massive they didn't hold that all campers
and staff would have news and together at the same time every day. we also had a place called the
vehicle (?) but she would go to watch movies on many days or we would remove those talent shows
and things like that I was hired as a music specialist which meant I would spend most of my days
teaching all ages of kids music I also the second Shabbat services and song sessions the first two
weeks of countless staff weeks first week for answer master staff and then the American staff joined
us for the second week this was one of the best parts of camp for me because this is when I became
close with all of the other staff members and made friends from all over the World.

These beats were all about making friends see it's the answer camp and getting account maybe for the
kids coming we went bowling shopping at for ice cream you can just had an all-around good pain
people they can't score there I made best friends from England wheels which … and America and the
madness of camp started when the catch that I'd I was placed in a bunk with seven twelve-year-old
girls I haven't spent all my time worth when I wasn't teaching music lessons these girls became like
my little sisters and I miss them so much. that would the account for me was waking up and have him
gave us that ATM and I would teach either sex or seven lessons per day with one period or we also
had one hour for swim and the rest I was doing at the you what you would spend with our kids and in
the evening we would have all camp activities or diversion activities. these included camp fires sports

well the other staff I didn't lay off some of the highlights of camp from me but the fourth of July
Olympic Games and staff banquet the Olympic Games went on for three days and the whole camp was
buttoned the four different teams competing against each other at moods of definitely including sports
swimming and mating songs Shabbat was also always my favorite night of the week everybody
always got dressed up and dressed in wake this is also when I got to sing for alone than there were and
everyone danced and sang along camp went by so quickly and I was so sad and I had to end I met the
most amazing friendships and I was upset that everyone was going to be so far away after camp I
traveled for two beats before flying home one of my closest friends from camp after about half an hour
change on me from New York so we went in stayed with him for the first week I went to New York I
don't afford those days we done the usual things like seeing Times Square 9/11 Empire State and st.
Joe Park I also went on to New York alone one of these days to see the Broadway show with d-day
vannhansen myself and my friend Emma then got a bus to Washington DC to meet up with our base
camp things I mean spent three days they are living in a hostel and seeing all this is like the White
House we then went to Philadelphia for two days and saw the rocky steps and elaborate the bill but by
the same I was exhausted and ready to come home but then headed back to New York for a few days
but I went this year another shoe and then Louisville overall this was the best summer of my life and
I'm so happy that I get is been an experience that again next summer I cannot wait to see all my my
kids again and hopefully have another amazing someone.

10. Kamp Amerika Deneyimi

11. Ice hockey and stuffed animals

Hello my name is Kellan I'm a first year interpreting student at the FBI in Geneva and today I'm
gonna talk a little bit about a hockey key and I went to a couple weeks ago you don't need to do a lot
of research about the local hockey team I'm only gonna mention its name and same thing about the
player who's me I'm gonna mention you know who it is just y'all all you have to do is be able to say
his name so that's that and I will start now ladies and gentlemen if you're like me and you're just an
amateur hockey fan you might wonder what stuffed animals incise hockey have in common until
recently I had no idea that these two things couldn't effect go hand in hand it all started about a month
ago when I went to a hockey game to see the local team in Geneva Servette to play against some other
Swiss team.

I got to the arena and already I knew it was going to be a fun night because the match was almost
completely sold out there was a really good atmosphere lots of people having fun and once the game
started things were really exciting because Geneva scored a goal within the first three minutes as you
can imagine the entire arena went crazy people were clapping and cheering it's what you would expect
and then all of a sudden I see stuffed animals flying through the air teddy bears unicorns Olaf minions
you name it and in left from the minute the entire rink was covered with with stuffed animals so I'm
standing there and I said to myself well alright I clearly missed something so I asked someone
standing near me hey what's uh what's going on with these stuffed animals and it turns out it was a
kind of charity stint that had been going on in Geneva for over 10 years about one match per season
match goers are invited to throw stuffed animals onto the ice.

When Geneva scores its first goal these stuffed animals are then collected washed and then later the
hockey players themselves go to local children's hospitals and the children there and I can't tell you
how many stuffed animals there were I have one picture from the program from that night this is kind
of what it looks like and there are so many other hundreds if not a thousand or two stuffed animals so
if they're for lack of a better word aren't enough sick children in Geneva left stuffed animals are then
sent to other cities in Switzerland and if need be even outside of Switzerland so it's a really nice
charity I did a little bit more research about the event and it wasn't in fact originated in Geneva rather
it's a tradition that was started by the NHL I don't remember it was in North America or in Canada but
it comes back sorry I don't remember if it was in the United States or Canada but it comes from …
America and was brought to Geneva.

Like I said about ten years ago and what was interesting about this particular match was the young
man who scored the first goal so as I said there are so so many stuffed animals that it takes a lot of
people to clean them up to get them off the ice quickly so both the players from both teams participate
referees the kids from the junior hockey team and volunteers so getting back the young man who
scored the call this particular match are no yet he gave an interview that was published the next day in
the paper in which he said that this was a really rewarding moment for him because he used to play for
the junior hockey team in Geneva and he remembers being a child participating in the stuffed animal
matches being one of the kids that helped collect the stuffed animals and now as a grown man he was
the one who had the opportunity to score the first goal during the match that launched this avalanche
of stuffed animals which would then be collected and distributed to local children in Geneva so that's
just a really nice story to to highlight a really fun fun match and a really nice evening I had in Geneva,
thank you very much.

the internal discussions about their status and was preparing a story, two people with ties to the family
said."

"My British friends said to me, I'm sure he's great but you shouldn't do it because the British tabloids
will destroy your life." Harry and Meghan's announcement may have caused a massive shakeup, but
surely it was better that the news came from them instead of coming from a tabloid. Either way, these
royal renegades are now in the middle of a "Megxit" firestorm that continues to reshuffle the deck and
force their hand. "I never thought that this would be easy, but I thought it would be fair, and that's the
part that's really hard to reconcile."While Harry and Meghan may be punished for defying the queen, it
looks like the prince will have to face the senior royals alone, because Meghan has reportedly left the
country in order to take care of her other major priority: their son, Archie. While away from his
parents, Archie was being cared for by a nanny and Meghan's close friend, Jessica Mulroney, who is a
fashion stylist, according to E! News. Mulroney took to Instagram to share a post amidst the Megxit
mania that appeared to be in support of Meghan, saying, "A strong woman looks a challenge in the eye
and gives it a wink."

According to E!, it's widely believed that Prince Harry will return to his wife and son in Canada soon,
but he also has some previously scheduled engagements in England later in the month. Considering
the Duke and Duchess were forced to rush their announcement, all of their future plans are subject to
change. Meghan and Harry have always come across as smooth operators, but only time will tell how
well they cope with being forced to rush into what's now become the circus known around the world
as Megxit. According to The New York Times, the couple had been planning the move for a few
months, meaning that they supposedly worked out what they wanted, submitted their intentions to
Prince Charles, and asked for a meeting with the Queen to discuss the situation. However, the Evening
Standard explains that an important next step supposedly never happened because the meeting was
blocked. Before they could make another attempt, it seems their plans were leaked, forcing them to
break their own news or have the press break it for them. Even though Harry and Meghan weren't able
to execute their original plan the way they intended, they did manage to complete one very telling task
before things went wild. The pair had already applied for a copyright stamp, which includes the
'Sussex Royal' name and their joint charity, The Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of
Sussex, according to Pure Wow.

The publication went on to explain, "The copyright is granted by the U.K.'s Intellectual Property
Office. All it means is Prince Harry and Markle have complete control over the 'Sussex Royal' name,
which covers a variety of areas, including printed merchandise, clothing, charitable fundraising, and
social care services." The couple reportedly submitted the paperwork for the brand trademark in June
2019, and it was approved in December 2019, just weeks before the announcement that they would be
stepping back from royal duties to pursue a more independent life including financial independence.

dismissive of art that is located in ... it was built by a millionaire William Rockhill Nelson; by the

pieces of art and this raised his daughters funds and this kind of ended up in a big battle with a lawyer
chambers at King's Nelson Widow and obtaining three hundred thousand dollars that she invested in
the gallery. after all this investment increased up to $700,000 in 1927.

the original idea for this museum was different museums one in local Kansas City and the other one in
..park. but the state decided to combine just two museums in order to have smaller galleries but a
bigger art institution the buildings for the museum were made by pretty famous renowned architects
a ... that also mainly Bertie Memorial and the Kansas governor's house inserted crest

the land for this museum was solved in 1930 and by 1933 it was already built. well the state had
already more buildings and they earned some money but it has big costs and they had empty rooms so
they didn't have enough exhibition this areas they decided then to rehabilitate these areas in order to
make them better they didn't accept know exactly how to do this because the original idea of this
museum was pretty classic and they at last decided to bring up a contest to find the architect that could
do better with this museum.

and the winner was to the hall that has this class room yeah like five rooms made of a glass at the east
of the building and he named it a lens's it is also called a Bloch building he won the cast contest in
1999 and well this all ended up better because it merged withthe simple beauty of it and it reallygot
along with this cultural garden that the mission had and he preserved the organic form of the museum
it is important to highlight that this museum really really needed a change it has a lot of Asian art it
has extensive Asian art collection and they also have some contemporary architectural marvels and
well I really encourage you if you can to visit this museum and that will be all for me.

17. Language Immersion Programs in Elementary Schools

Good afternoon everyone I'm going to talk to you today about the importance of language immersion
classes in elementary school there's a phenomenon sweeping across the United States lately of dual or
multi language immersion programs in elementary schools I feel that this has the potential to create
significant change in the American culture over the long term the idea is simple language acts
acquisition takes place at an early age an elementary school is where we further learn and refine our
three R's that is reading writing and arithmetic so why not change the main language spoken in our
elementary schools to incorporate a quote unquote foreign language into our schooling for our
children.

naturally this idea has number of detractors and naysayers and their points are not entirely without
merit English is the most commonly spoken language in the United States so why bother teaching a
language that is of little practical use though to this point I think it's worth reiterating that English is
still not the national language although there was a bill that in that was introduced in 2017 that aimed
to change this which is still being debated today another point against immersion schools is that some
of the students are learning a different language while other students are learning English and because
of this then we'll those students learning another language then be behind in their English language
abilities do they even learn to read English.

another point against is that the quality of the language spoken in these emergent classrooms must be
at a sufficient level to then promote further fluency in that language as in if someone who is not very
good in the language is teaching other people that language then they can only be as good as their
teacher each of these concerns are perfectly valid though it's my opinion that the benefits far outweigh
the disadvantages of a language immersion program there are several approaches for how best to
navigate introducing students to an academic level of both English and a foreign language in primary
school the two principal ones are a 50/50 and a 90/10 model in the 90/10 model students are taught for
90% of the day in their foreign language and conversely 10% in English this ratio changes into the
second year and becomes 80/20 then 70/30 and so on until they reach a 50/50 model and while it's true
that sums that all students in an immersion program do sacrifice their English lessons early on at the
beginning of their academic career over the long term

and because English is so often spoken outside of the classroom those students are able to catch up
their non immersion peers by the time they reach high school as many of our guests today can attest
the reasons for learning a second language are obvious as are the benefits of being exposed to a second
language at a young age the last point about being concerned about the quality of teachers teaching
these immersion programs is also valid but because of the amount of time that these immersion
programs have been in place and then the first students who were exposed to these programs are now
reaching teaching age and so they are creating a cycle of high quality native or near native elementary
school teachers that are filling the market in conclusion I believe that immersion programs are a thing
of beauty and are going to be here for the long.

22. Canadian Recycling Crisis

hello my name is Kellan I'm a first year interpreting student at the FBI in Geneva and today I'm going
to be talking about the recycling problem in North America more specifically in Canada and I will
start now. ladies and gentlemen over the past year 18 months North America as a whole a Canada in
particular has been faced with a huge recycling problem and the problem is there is too much waste to
be recycled but not the means on disabilities to process it the root of.

the problem goes back to 2018 when China announced that they were going to start limiting what they
would what waste they would accept from North America and they said they weren't going to take 24
different kinds of plastic and paper now keep in mind that up until then Canadians have been
exporting nearly half of their recyclable waste to China where they thought it was being recycled as it
turns out what the Chinese were doing was mining out the valuable materials I can make a profit from
and everything else they were incinerating but none that matters because anyway China said they were
in stop accepting large amounts of waste this led to a 98 percent decrease in the number and the
amount of waste exported from Canada to China so what did kidney Canadians do they started looking
for other places to export their recyclable materials they started with countries like Malaysia India
Taiwan but one after the other each of these countries either banned wasteful North America
completely or made similar restrictions to China and that's how we came to be in the current situation
in which we are in Canada.

there is simply too much waste and there isn't there aren't the facilities to process it you can measure
how much waste goes in to a landfill using the residual rate the residual the residual rate measures
what percentage of what a recycling facility receives goes on to end up in a landfill and it gives you an
idea of the severity of situation. let me specify so that a normal residual rate for an average recycling
plant is eight to ten percent of what they received goes on to end up in the landfill but in recent years a
lot of recycling plans are reporting a residual rate of closer to 25 percent and in some parts of the
country as as much as 40 percent if you think about it that's enormous 40 is nearly half so nearly half
of what some recycling plants are receiving ends up in a landfill.

so as a response to this problem the recycling facilities don't have very many options okay well a lot
of them have resorted to is simply limiting the kinds of things a number of materials that they can
accept for example in Alberta a number of recycling plants no longer accept glass of any kind no
single-use plastic cups so that means no Solo cups but also no yogurt containers for example they don't
accept tetra packs anymore or plastic clamshell containers a plastic clamshell container is think about
it if you're in a cafeteria or to go place the thing you pile your salad into with the bottoms attach the lid
and you close it that's a plastic clamshell container which is no longer recyclable in most of Alberta in
Ontario a number of plans to stop accepting milk cartons aluminium aluminium pie plates and
aluminium cans and also no yogurt cups so the other option is to if you can't just stop accepting
materials the other option is probably to go bankrupt which is exactly what happened in Quebec a
recycling plant went bankrupt and
 the government of Quebec responded with a thirteen million dollar bailout and they announced that
they would plan that they planned to invest another 100 million dollars in the recycling industry in
2019 now I give you these numbers to give you an idea of just how expensive the recycling industry
must be if the government of Quebec has to invest a hundred million dollars in the recycling industry
you can imagine how expensive it is for the individual recycling plants so here I think the obvious
solution is to not not stop accepting materials that you can recycle ideally the solution would be to use
as little plastic as possible or in a perfect world cut out plastic all together, thank you very much.

23. European Investment Bank and Fossil Fuel Funding

hello my name is Kellan I'm a first year interpreting student at the University of Geneva and today I'm
going to talk about the European Investment Bank and fossil fuel funding I will start now ladies and
gentlemen last week I was pleasantly surprised to read an article about the European Investment Bank
and their announcement to cut funding for fossil fuel projects by 2021. this means that the European
Investment Bank will save about two billion euros a year by withholding funding for such projects and
the reason they gave for doing so was to become the world's first climate bank and to align themselves
more with the Paris agreement and the European Union's overall goal of becoming a carbon neutral
continent by the year 2050.

the vice-president of the bank Andrew McDowell issued a statement in which he said that it was a
good first step and it won't be the last but there was probably the most difficult to overcome and the
reactions to the bank's announcement were mostly positive especially from environmental
organizations who called it a victory for the environmental movement and a lot of people were pleased
that this Bank which is the largest public bank in the world is sending such a strong message about the
importance of taking action concrete action to protect the environment the declaration however and the
plan is not perfect in fact there are a couple of loopholes built into the proposal one of which says that
any of the project the European Union's projects of common interest we'll continue to be funded
anything that's under lists or will be added to the list by 2020 will still be eligible for funding after
2021

this means that there are about 50 natural gas projects in limbo that are still absorb they're still going to
be eligible for funding these loopholes were added into the proposal after much urging by some
member states like Germany and the European Commission and the argument for doing so is that in
comparison to other fossil fuels coal and oil natural gas is relatively clean and that's the reason why we
should continue to use it because it's not as bad as some of the otherfossil fuels.

so despite this I personally think this is an excellent thing that the European Investment Bank is doing
the European Union citizen I am proud to say when someone asks you know what does the European
Union do for the environment I cannot give them a concrete answer that well the European Investment
Bank recently took action to cut funding for fossil fuel projects in order to become a greener routine
Union, thank you very much.

lastly the method I would have preferred but it was very difficult to fun is a tandem partner as you can
imagine there aren't that many Hawaiian speakers in the world and most of them live in Hawaii and I
did try to find an attendant partner by going on Facebook and couchsurfing and looking for people
who listed the physical Hawaiian and i was lucky enough to get a response from a native hawaiian
speaker who said he was very happy to hear that I was interested in learning a language but
unfortunately he prefers face-to-face tutoring face-to-face tendons and he wasn't open to teaching a
Hawaiian online through texting or email so I'm disappointed but if you're lucky enough to find in
tandem partner that would be great of course I find that the best way to learn the language would be a
mix of all these things but as I said due to the difficulty of finding tandem partner I have to make do
with the other resources available to me and you can – Aloha

25. Moana and polynesian culture

hello my name is Kelly I'm a first year interpreting student at the FBI in Geneva and today I'm going
to talk about this is the Disney film Alana and Polynesian culture I will start now. ladies and
gentlemen today I like to talk about the Disney film the one if you're unfamiliar with the story it's
about a young Polynesian girl who goes on an adventure to save her Island other people and although
it is not my favorite Disney film I think it is definitely one of the most interesting because of its
significance for Polynesian culture.
the first time I watched the film I was struck by the number of Hawaiian words present in the movie
for starters the title character and the title moana is simply the Hawaiian word for ocean in fact Moana
is the the word for ocean in most Asian languages but in addition to that you also have Moana spent
chicken whose name is heihei and Hawaii heihei is just the Hawaiian word for chicken she also has a
pet pig named pua and pua is the Hawaiian word flower and although it's not mentioned in the movie
that means our Hawaiian words that does not affect the story or the plot at all

for someone who speaks little Hawaiian as I do it was really nice to hear that James a pleasant surprise
but above and beyond that the movie really set a milestone for Polynesian culture because if he was
the first film dumped into three different Polynesian languages the film is first up into Maori as part of
the Maori language week in New Zealand Maori being at the indigenous language in New Zealand and
here the idea was to make the language more fun and accessible to

children and encourage them to learn it then last year Lorna was dropped into Tahitian it was the first
valued currency tuition and here the goal was to come back a little bit the threat of the French
language in places where deviation is spoken.

for example in 20 Polynesia where films are only shown or almost only shown in French some of the
film has dozens of Tahitian to help support his language then just this past year that I was very excited
to hear about this the film was dubbed into Hawaiian it was the first Hawaiian language dub of a
Disney movie here again the reason it was done in two Hawaiian was so that it could be used as an
educational tool at Hawaiian language immersion schools so unfortunate for me the DVD of the
Hawaiian language dub is only available in Hawaii to these immersion schools and that's for public so
if any of you are watching from Hawaii and have a copy of the DVD please don't hesitate to contact
me I want to conclude by saying that if you're watching from Europe you probably know that those
title was changed in most European countries from Rwanda to Vienna but Miami I have to say is not
an actual Polynesian word.it is based on Polynesian etymology and mabye at the beginning is rooted
in the Polynesian word for water but that's not what I find interesting what I find interesting is the
alleged reason for why the film's title has changed I have heard people say that is to avoid confusion
with an Italian porn star Milana Posey I do not know if that is true the button is definitely an
interesting reason to change the title of a film thank you very much.

26. How to make lemon cookies

hi everyone my name is Annette and I am a student at the interpretation course this is intro to
interpretation and today I would like to share with you a recipe in it on how to make lemon buttery
soft cookies so let's start it with the recipe I will divide this instructions into two parts first I'll give you
the list of ingredients. The list of ingredients is divided in two parts one is for the dough and one is for
the glazed and then after that we'll go on to the step by step process okay I don't know the ingredients
by part I do have a list so I will read them off please bear with me and what as I read them now.

for the cookies you'll need 2 sticks of unsalted butter you'll need 1 cup of confectioner's sugar you'll
need 1 tablespoon of finely grated lemon zest you'll need a tablespoon and a half of fresh lemon juice
2 cups of all-purpose flour and 3/4 teaspoon of kosher salt that is for the dough now for the glaze
you'll need a couple other ingredients and the first one is a half a cup plus 2 tablespoons of
confectioner sugar a tablespoon of fresh lemon juice a tablespoon of unsalted butter and the last
ingredient is probably the best you'll need finely grated lemon zest and that is for decoration purpose
only ok now let's go on to the actual step-by-step process ok like all baking recipes you'll need to
preheat the oven first the universal temperature is 350 however you do need to make adjustments
according to your own oven ok

once you start mixing everything together the first thing you do is preheat the oven so that when
you're done with getting the dough ready the oven should be just about ready ok so pre the oven 350
grab a large bowl and I suggest you use a handheld electric mixer for this recipe instead of a manual
process because if you use a manual process most likely the cookies will come out a little bit too hard
so grab a large bowl and in that bowl you're going to add the butter and the confectioner sugar and
you're gonna beat that until it's smooth and that should take you about two minutes after that you'll add
in the lemon zest and the lemon juice you'll add in the flour and the salt and you'll beat that and add
until it's nice and smooth - that should probably take you into another two minutes okay

so at this point you should have the oven preheating and you should have in your large bowl a nice
