Chemical Character Aqueous solution of a copolymer based on maleic acid and acrylic acid, Na-salt.

PRD-No.* 30042761

* BASF’s commercial product numbers.

Storage
a) Sokalan® CP 5 should be stored in the original container, tightly sealed in a cool,
dry room.
b) The temperature must not be allowed to exceed 60 °C
c) Storage in heated tanks up to 60 °C, if not longer than 6 weeks, otherwise under
a blanket of nitrogen
d) Storage at temperatures exceeding 25 °C for long periods can result in undesirable
color increases.
e) At low temperatures (approx. - 10 °C) the product can solidify. Warming between
10 to 40 °C reliquifies the product.
Though it is almost homogenous after thawing, it is recommended to stir it prior
to use.
e) Drums or containers that have solidified should be reconstituted by gentle heating,
preferably in a heating cabinet. The temperature must not be allowed to exceed
60 °C. This also applies if drums are heated by external electrical elements.
Internal electrical elements should not be used because of the localized anomalies
in temperature that they cause.
f) Usage, preferably, the total contents of a packing unit should be processed at
once. If this is not possible, the material should be homogenized before further
use.

Materials Suitable materials to store this product are:

a) AISI 321 stainless steel (X6CrNiTi1810) – stainless steel 1.4541
b) AISI 316 Ti stainless steel (X6CrNiMoTi17122) – stainless steel 1.4571
c) Polyethylene (HDPE/LDPE)

It is not recommended to store Sokalan® CP 5 in plain carbon steel, because this

would cause significant discoloration of the product within a short period of time.

Shelf life Provided, the product is stored properly and drums/containers are kept tightly
sealed, it has a shelf life of at least 12 months in its original packaging.
