FSAF24A-S Technical Data Sheet

On/Off, Spring Return, AC/DC 24 V, Auxiliary Switch

Fire & Smoke, 180 in-lb @ 350°F for 30 min., 25 s drive, 15 s spring

Application
The FSAF_A-S Auxiliary Switch actuators provide true spring-return operation
for reliable fail-safe application and positive close-off on UL555S dampers. The
spring-return system provides constant torque to the damper with and without
power applied to the actuator. The FSAF_A series provides 95° of rotation
and is provided with a graduated position indicator showing 0...95°. Two
SPST auxiliary switches provide means of closed and open damper position
indication.

Operation
The FSAF_A series actuators are mounted to the damper axle shaft or jackshaft

CONSTRUCTION
5.1.General Description of the Assembly
The specimen was a galvanized steel damper constructed in a single unit with variable
configurations of elbow joints, blade, accessory hardware and heat responsive device.
The overall dimensions of specimen were 500 x 400 x 400mm (w x h x depth).
For full details of the test specimen, refer to Appendix 1 and 2.
5.2.Supporting Construction
The specimen was installed within a rigid supporting construction made of solid blocks with a
nominal density of 2350kg/m3 and a structural opening of size 506 x 406 x 200mm (w x h x depth).
A 150 x 200mm (thk. x depth) reinforced concrete lintel was used along the head of structural
opening.
Supporting construction was in turn installed within a rigid test frame made of steel & dense
refractory castable with a density of 2000kg/m3 and opening size of 1800 x 1800 x 200mm (w x h
x depth).
In accordance with section 10.2.3.3 of UL 555 Standard, the masonry supporting construction was
allowed to cure for a minimum of 3 or 5 days.
Test Reference No: UL045-1

5.3.Conditions & Test Situation

The dampers were installed under the constriction guidelines outlined in section 4 of UL 555, and
placed centrally within the supporting construction.
The damper was a non-symmetrical construction. It was installed such that it protruded 170mm
outward from the unexposed face of the supporting construction (away from the furnace) and
30mm outward from the exposed face of the supporting construction (into the furnace).
The specimen was tested with the actuator and shaft linkage on the unexposed face.
The unit included multiple configurations of elbow joints, blades and accessory hardware. The
results and scope of this test report apply to the configuration and orientation tested, and
different configurations or orientations are not included within the scope of this test report.
The dampers were installed with a heat responsive device in the form of fusible link on the
unexposed face of the specimen, and were installed in the open position to allow for activation
after the start of the test, as indicated in the observations in this test report.
SPECIMEN VERIFICATION
6.1.Specimen Definition & Verification of the Test Specimen.
The choice and design and the definition of the specimen have been made by Gulf Grilles
Company, and TBWIC testing laboratory has not been involved in the selection or design of the
specimen. Similarly, the results of the test apply only to the samples as received.
There are contexts where information has been provided by the sponsor and verification of
information has been done through either technical datasheet or other document submission, or
as indicated directly by the sponsor. For this reason, materials have been tested in an as-received
condition and TBWIC bears no liability for the legitimacy of the submitted information.
6.2.Specimen Installation & Conditioning
Installation of the specimen: TBWIC.
The specimen was delivered on 18-Jan-21 and installed between 2-Feb-21 and 3-Feb-21. The
specimen after installation was stored in ambient conditions at temperatures ranging between
16°C and 29°C and 25% to 60% humidity.
METHOD OF TEST
7.1.Performance Criteria
The specimen was evaluated against the performance criteria governing openings, gaps, and
flaming, and actuation outlined in section 10.2 of UL 555 standard.
7.2.Measurements (for graphs and data, refer to Appendix 3)
The time-temperature curves have been controlled using four thermocouples distributed in the
furnace.
The furnace thermocouples were placed at 6in. (152mm) from the exposed face of the specimen
in accordance with paragraph 10.3.4 of the UL 555 standard.
The pressure in the furnace has been maintained as nearly equal to atmospheric pressure as
possible in accordance with paragraph 10.3.7 of UL 555 standard.
