SUBJUNCTIVE

PART I -- 4 VERB MOODS

a) Indicative: it indicates a state of factuality (real actions).


ex.: Atlanta is the capital of Georgia.
Are you going to the party?
I'd like a piece of chocolate cake.
b) Imperative: commands
ex.: Clean your room, now!
Open the door!
c) Infinitive: it expresses an action or state without reference to any subject.
ex.: It's important [to eat] well.
[To err] is human; [to forgive], divine.
d) Subjunctive: it expresses something that is contrary to what actually is.
ex.: If only I were at the beach right now.
If I were you, I would be excited.

PART II – SUBJUNCTIVE
{verb form used to explore a hypothetical situation}
1) WISH
ex.: I wish I [had] a car.
He wishes he [were] rich.
I wish I [got] a good job.
2) DEMAND
ex.: I demand she [go] now.
I insist he [tell] the truth.
I demand they [clean up] the house after the party.
3) SUGGESTION
ex.: I suggest you [leave] now.
I recommend you [take] a medicine.
I suggest she [leave] now.
4) AFTER EXPRESSIONS
ex.: It is crucial ads [be] clever and witty.
It is essential she [do] all her homework.
It is imperative you [get] good grades.
It is vital people [wear] masks on streets.
It is important she [take care of] herself.
