Amir went shopping at a clothing store. He bought,

1 Jacket for $290

1 Shirt for $80

1 Pair Trousers for $190

1 Pair shoes for $220

(i) He is charged V.A.T of 15% on the TOTAL bill. What will be


the FINAL amount to be paid on Amir’s bill inclusive of
V.A.T? [4]

(ii) Amir decided to ask for a discount on the jacket. The store
clerk gave him 5% off the price before V.A.T. What is the
selling price of the jacket after discount, but before V.A.T
is charged? [3]

(iii) At the store Amir saw an advertisement which said, “Buy


one tie for $79 or two for $154. Which is the better buy?
Justify your answer. [3]

(iv) After Amir got home with his purchases he realized he did
not need the trousers, so he decided to sell them to his
friend Jim. He worked out the V.A.T. he paid on the
trousers and got $28.50 so he set his selling price at
$262.20, what was his profit percent? [5]
