CULMINATING PERFORMANCE TASK

First Semester AY 2022-2023

Culminating Performance Task: (30 pts)

The learners are able to illustrate the reaction at the molecular level in the separation of
components in coconut milk and in the production of homemade laundry bar soap.

Culminating Performance Scenario:

As a researcher/scientist/engineer (ROLE) in a DOST and DENR sponsored program, you
have been tasked to design and perform saponification process employing different chemical and
physical techniques (GOAL) as a means to educate a community in preparing organic soap as one
livelihood program ( SITUATION). Present the bar soap you made and a picture documentation
(PRODUCT) of all the processes involved to the DOST & DENR representatives and barangay
officials (AUDIENCE) who will evaluate them based on clarity, appropriateness of the techniques
presented, accuracy of results and quality of product (STANDARDS).

Performance Checks/Flexible Assessment Activities:

a. 1st Grading – PC1 part1 & 2– Separation Techniques Activities (40 pts)
b. 1st Grading – PC2 part1 & 2 – Chemical Reactions Activity & Exercises (40pts)
c. 1st Grading – PC3/CPT part 1 – Soap Making Preparations (30 pts)
d. 2nd Grading – PC4 – Laboratory Activities (40 pts)
e. 2nd Grading – PC5 – Laboratory Activities on Organic Substances(40pts)

I. TITLE: SAPONIFICATION (30 pts)

II. GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

A PICTURE DOCUMENTATION ON A SPECIFIC APPLICATION OF SAPONIFICATION

PROCESS FROM COCONUT OIL ILLUSTRATING CHEMICAL REACTION AT THE
MOLECULAR LEVEL.

First Grading Performance Task – Chosen Specific Saponification Process Preparations

- Materials (safety, quality & cost)
- Process/Procedure/Set-up
- Principles behind the process/procedure/set-up
(Chemistry Concepts/Techniques explained and Rationale
with equations involved)

Second Grading Performance Task – Soap Product, Saponification Process & Product
Documentation
- Picture documentation of the soap making process, the
product produced and the tests performed.
(Pictures, Video or Live Presentation - 5 minutes)
- Individual Reflection in the performance of the task
SAINT
III. OBJECTIVES:

The learners are able to showcase chemistry processes and techniques in the chosen specific
saponification process that can help a community livelihood using available materials at home and in
the community. It specifically aims to:

a. conceptualize and design an effective saponification process that can be used at home or in the
community using available materials;
b. establish the chemical process, set-up and technique in performing the tasks; and
c. manifest good craftsmanship in the picture presentation of the processes/set-up and technique
involved and the product produced.
d. inform the public/audience about the importance of your project

IV. GUIDELINES:

1. If with a group, you are to observe health and safety protocols when physically meeting up
with your groupmate/s. You are highly encouraged to have virtual meetings with your
groupmate/s.
2. If with a group, agree on how to settle for the expenses incurred in completing the project. Members
who failed to settle their financial contribution for unjustifiable reason/s shall be given deduction
from the group’s final score;
3. If with a group/pair, regularly communicate with your groupmate/s regarding the progress of your
project and it is highly recommended that you DISTRIBUTE TASKS to members to fast track the
completion of your requirement.

First Grading Performance Task (CPT part1)
