Objectives
To study the diode applications in clipping circuits.

Apparatus Required
1. Function Generator
2. Oscilloscope
3. DC Power Supply
4. Breadboard
5. Diodes
6. Resistor.

Theory
Clippers are networks that employ diodes to “clip” away a portion of an input signal
without distorting the remaining part of the applied waveform. There are two general
categories of clippers: series and parallel. The series configuration is defined as one
where the diode is in series with the load, whereas the parallel variety
has the diode in a branch parallel to the load.

Procedure
1. First we connect all the components like shown in figure 1.
2. The source then the diodes (like shown) and then resistor and connect the
oscilloscope at the ends of the resistor.
3. Same procedure we follow through all the rest of the experiments.
4. For better understanding we measure the input sine voltage by oscilloscope and
then again measure then voltage across the resistor time by time.
5. For the variable voltage source in between (shown in 3 and 4) we set the
minimum voltage of the source of dc volt and increase to 4v .
6. From this time we start tonotice the oscilloscope the changing of the circuit
voltage.

Result
We can see that the diodes clipping the input base on the position.
But the most interesting thing is the biased series and shunt clipping. For this when we
put 4V in the dc circuit we did see that a amount of voltage pass through the diode. Like
in details for biased series negative clipping the actual voltage was reduced by the dc
and the diode .
And then for the biased shun positive clipping the voltage did pass about for some time
when the dc voltage was more than the rising input voltage then the diode acted as a
forward bais and let the voltage pass through the diode,
Discussion
By this experiment we can get that clipping is done for circuits to clip voltage to a cartain
voltage. For a sinosidal voltage we can get a output voltage as we want by reducing it or
for a higher voltage time we can get a minimum voltage by this method. We can control
the output of the voltage or limit the wave side if we need a positive cycle or a negative
cycle for the instrument.
