Lab Assignment 4: The Dilbert and Dogbert Show

DUE: Thursday, 12-1

Using a three-panel cartoon strip as the “script”, each student will create a short movie in
FCPX. Please use your own camera or request the use of a departmental camera. If desired,
you can use the strips below as your choice, though you are free to choose a comic of your
own. Please note that your choice should include character dialogue, and not be a silent strip.

NOTE: You may use any inanimate substitute subjects for your “talent.” For example, the
characters of Dilbert and Dogbert provide the inspiration and dialogue only. You are also
encouraged to create your own compositions, and not feel limited by the visuals you see in the
strip.

Requirements:

1. A minimum of 7 framed shots, in support of the dialogue. These shots will be imported
into a “Project” in Final Cut, stored in the “Event Library,” and edited in the “Timeline”
2. The use of “slug” at the beginning of your project.
3. A transition at the beginning and end of the movie
 Standard choices would be fade in and fade out (cross dissolves)
4. The use of at least one video “effect” or filter
5. The use of a title sequence
6. The use of audio level (volume) adjustments
7. The use of the “Record Audio” voiceover tool for recording at least one clip of audio

You are encouraged to integrate additional tools as well such as the following:

 A video transition between clips

 Changes in speed or duration of clip
 The use of an audio filter
 Compositing or Overlay (super-impose) of video clips
 Keyframe changes to the parameters of video or audio over time.
