Dear Ms. Bruñidor,

Greetings!

Established in 1950, the Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary has been quietly but steadily carrying out
its mandate to provide holistic formation to candidates to the ordained priesthood. To date, the
institution has produced more than a dozen bishops and hundreds of priests, serving different dioceses
here in the Philippines and abroad. Deserving mention as well are hundreds of lay alumni who, owing in
part to the formation received and the experience gained while inside the seminary, have been
contributing positively to social and cultural transformation.

Now on its 68th year, the seminary however is not getting any younger. Its buildings and facilities are
beginning to fall apart due in part to the impact of nature and the passage of time. Steps will have to be
taken to ensure that it is sustained as a viable and decent home for our seminarians.

Seeing the urgency of the need and driven by the nobility of the cause, the Bishops and the Clergy of the
Diocese of Tagbilaran and Talibon, most of whom are alumni themselves, are launching a support group
called the “Friends of IHMS”. The group will consist of families or individuals who will pledge Php 500
per month to the seminary solely for the upkeep of its buildings and procurement of facilities. At the
minimum, a family or individual can choose to make the pledge for a single (1) year. We would be
blessed even more if the family decides to pledge for a longer period.

So as not to significantly affect other parochial initiatives, there will be a limit to the number of “Friends”
in each parish. On account of your generosity and love for priests, your parish priest has nominated
your name/family to become part of this support movement. With your help, we can guarantee that
the seminary can continue to fulfill its mandate for the eventual benefit of our faith-communities. On
our part, as initial commitment to the “Friends of IHMS”, we shall remember your special occasions in
our daily masses and organize recollections for you on important seasons of the liturgical year.

Should you choose to be part of our “Friends”, for your convenience, you may hand in your monthly
pledge through the Parish Office. Either the Parish turns over the contribution to us though the
Chancery, or a seminarian comes to collect it on our behalf. At the end of each year, the seminary will
provide you with an update of the total amount you will have contributed.

This letter comes with a commitment page on which you may indicate your name, the duration of your
pledge and other pertinent information that we require in order to establish a data base for our
“Friends”. The page will help us keep track of special occasions and events which we intend to include
in our mass intentions. Still being discussed as well is the proposal to establish a Benefactors’ Wall in
the seminary in order to honor in perpetuity those who have, and will have, significantly contributed to
the special work of forming future priests. These are but a few expressions of the gratitude that we
have for the generosity of benefactors and friends.
