Course Objectives:
The objectives of this course are:
1) To provide an overview of economic terms and understand the basics of Indian
economy with regards to human development.
2) To underline economic and human resources of India.
3) To impart the understanding of economic planning in India with analysis of past
five year plans
4) To underline the problems and prospects of agriculture sector and large & small
scale industries in India.
5) To differentiate between role of service and entrepreneurial sector and understand
the role of financial institutions in Indian Economy

BBA-303: INDIAN ECONOMY


Unit – I: Meaning of Economy, Economic growth & development, characteristics of
Indian Economy, Factors affecting economic development.
Unit – II: An overview of Economic Resources of India, Human Resources of India,
Concept of Population Explosion Interrelation of Population and Economic
Development, Population policy of India, Problem of Unemployment in India.
Unit – III: Agriculture: Land Reforms and land tenure system, Green Revolution and
capital formation in agriculture industry, trends in composition and growth, role of
public and private sector, small scale and cottage industries.
Unit – IV: Problems and prospects of Indian Agriculture, Plan period Position,
Problems and Prospects of Large Scale Industries. (Iron, Steel, Sugar, Cotton,
Textile). Role of small scale industry in Indian economy.
Unit – V: Indian Banking System: Structure and organization of banks; Reserve bank
of India; Apex banking institutions; Commercial banks; Regional rural banks; Co-
Operative banks; Development banks. NITI Aayog: formation, Function and
contribution of NITI Aayog.

Course Outcome

On completion of this course, the students will be able to

CO1: To stimulate their Critical thinking about economic terms and understand the

basics of Indian economy with regards to human development.

CO 2: Analyze Economic Resources of India and demonstrate understanding about

interrelation of population and economic development.

CO 3: To demonstrate his/ her understanding towards economic planning in India and


critical analysis of past five year plans

CO4: To demonstrate the problems and prospects of agriculture sector and large &
small scale industries in India.
CO5: To be able to differentiate between role of service and entrepreneurial sector
and demonstrate the role of financial institutions in Indian Economy
