Online Tools for Teaching Learning Process

Introduction
In the current scenario there arenumerous changes taking place from the traditional
teaching method to the present virtual teaching. Though teachers and students are fighting hard
to cope up with these, there are large availability of online teaching and learning platforms which
are really available to them as a tool in making their teaching as well as their learning process
easier and fulfilled. This present paper attempts to analysesuch online teaching and learning
platforms along with the types of tools, its key features and its advantages and disadvantages in
order to depict it to be a perfect guiding tool for each and every one‘s education in the current
pandemic time.

Traditional Teaching and Virtual Teaching


In the past, the traditional way of teaching was done using blackboard or whiteboard,
chalk, pen, paper, which ultimately paved a way to emotional touch. Whereas in the present, the
virtual teaching is taking place with the use of Laptop, PC, mobile, keyboard and mouse which
act as a vital role in leading the applications (apps) to the virtual touch.
Interest of the Learners
When questioning the interest of the learners, it is important to seek the role of teachers
both with traditional and smart way teaching.
Tools
Initially to analyse the tools, it is important to look at the common tools which are likely
known to all such as Zoom, Google Classroom, Google Meet, Cisco Webex, Microsoft teams
and so on. The tools which merely help teachers to teach are, Edmodo, Nearpod, Quizzes,
Kahoot, Too Noisy and Blub. On the other hand students are benefited by the tools like,
Notability, Go Conqr, Easy Bib, Lulu, Mathway and Thinglink.
Teaching and Learning Platforms
On considering the platforms which act as a helping hand for teaching and learning
process are as follows: Teachmint, Moodle, Classroom 2.0, Engrade, My Grade Book, Teacher
Tube, Thinkific, CANVAS, and Schoology.
Types of Tools
1. Microsoft is a tool that widely connects Google Classroom, Moodle and Teachmint.
Online communication tools on the other like, Google Meet, Zoom, Microsoft Teams and
Skype helps in visual communication.
2. Social media channels commonly set by Facebook, LinkedIn and WhatsApp. But there
are document management tools also which are suitable for all Laptops and mobiles. To
limit, they are Adobe, MS office, One Drive, Drop Box and Ever Note.

3. Online Video Tools are like You Tube and Loom. On the other hand there are work
planning tools also which are in common like Google calender and Calendly that helps in
setting time and date for regular class.
4. Quiz Maker which highlights not only Google form in general but also many more apps
like Projeqt, Thinglink, TED-ED, Educlipper, Story bird, and Animoto.
Tools and its Key features
1. Teachmint
Teachmint is said to be the India‘s best application, where it serves as Learning
Management System Application for teachers, tutors and institute. It is a Learning Management
System where many Indian languages are incorporated. Here the platform is in virtual classroom.
People can fix appointments like scheduling, coaching, building and invoicing. It is an engaging
platform where students put their due attention in full force. This app serves as a communication
tool, which are easy to access in mobile, laptop and desktop computer accessories. Teachers can
make easy live video conferencing and recording of their day to day classes. Here the
opportunities are like, live class, recorded class, teachers can share study materials, documents,
PDF, You Tube links, and also can give assignments and quiz to check their students
understanding and ability. For each class, teachers can schedule time table, and also can manage
attendance and analytic at the same time. In simple it is an introduction of teacher and subject
content.
2. Google Classroom
Google classroom is a versatile tool, which serves as an LMS. The google apps in a way
meant to create lesson, quiz, and document inside google classroom. Within it there are three
components. Initially Stream that insists what is coming up, secondly classwork were
assignment, quiz, and discussion questions can be checked. Thirdly to check the list of students
for a particular class, People Option will be more helpful.
The key features of google classroom are Themes that can be set for school or college
colour and Logo. Teachers can reuse the assignments, tests, and course content in future also.

Teachers can add content for assignments, videos, PDF, Google Doc or form for the purpose of
survey process. They can share video, link, image and website at the same time and can view
students‘ assignment, announcement and schedule the post at their convenience. Further can
draft assignment and set time or due date according to their accessibility for the students to take
up assignment or test.
3. Moodle
Moodle is a learning platform that provides educators, administrators and learners. Here
there is an advantage of single robust that can keep things to be more secured and create
personalized learning environment. This serves as a download software and web server at a time.
Moreover it is a knowledgeable moodle that assist teachers in a wider way.
The key features can be like online learning environment, online collaboration, that
serves as self study course or materials, where we find it to be an collaborative and synchronous
course on one hand and independent and self paced courses on the other hand.
4. Edmodo
It is an educational technology, were the company offers communication, collaboration
and coaching platform that will be highly useful for K-12 school teachers. Here the teachers can
share the contents and give assignment, quiz, and even manage communication with students,
colleagues and parents. As an educational tool it connects teachers and students. This leads
people to learning goals and create pools. Teachers can prepare separate spread sheets and can
allot awards and badges between individual verses students. Teachers can able be access student
progress. It is platform were online classroom discussions are made. People can activate admin
account freely. It is a network which connects student, administrator and parents at a time.
5. Blackboard
Blackboard is a collaborative integration were group management, grading enhancement,
student preview can be focused. Here teachers can maintain safe assignment. Enhancement of
cloud profile is applicable. There is portfolio too. Through this teachers can provide their
students a social learning. Teachers can maintain data management. There is blackboard drive

were things can be stored and maintained. Students can enrol for course. There will be active
collaboration. Calender can be set for classes. Contents can be edited by teachers anytime. It is
more or less a retention centre where dynamic contents can be listed.
Online Class
During the commencement of online class, teachers are not aware of the things happening
around students. While it is in Google meet, if the class starts by 10 o‘clock students may get up
by at 9:45 and may keep their camera switched on making themselves reveal that they are
present but at the same time they would also take their breakfast during class. Students may not
mute or unaware how to do in such a way make noise in order to create disturbance ignoring the
rules. Sometimes parents may watch the class or the students‘ attitude behind camera. Students
may also easily escape by saying mic is not working when teachers ask them questions about
their understanding.
Teachers can share PDF, so that students can capture screen, image, GIF, videos. There
are scrolling applications, large spreadsheets, which will be useful for students. Through Screen
Cast O‘ Matic application teachers can do tutorials, video lessons and slide share presentation.
There are also apps like screen shot, FOSS which is a free and open source software mainly in
contrast to proprietary software. It is a software under copyright, free licensed to use, people can
copy, study and change the software. Here the freedom are like: we can run for any purpose,
there is free of course code were we can modify code and keep the source code open, further free
to distribute the copies of software to others.
Free Screen Recording Applications
Initially we have free cam without webcam. This app has only WMV. Secondly, shares
low quality video without webcam. Furthermore, applications like Tiny Take, Screencast O‘
Matic, OBS Studio, Esvid, Apowersoft, Loom, Ice Cream Screen Recorder, Windows Game Bar
and Screen Castify are more useful for teachers in taking class.
Students can make use of applications like Open Shot, Shotcut, I Movie, Da Vinci
Resolve and Light Works. These applications are of free videos without watermark.

Conclusion: Online Teaching Good or Bad?


On discussing online teaching process, it is important to checkout whether it is suitable
for teachers and students. On that sense, it is necessary to look for the advantages and
disadvantages of this method.
When probing into the advantages in a way, it is very flexible. Teachers can give
independent attention to their students. Appropriateness can be maintained. Anonymity can be
avoided. It is fully student centred. More or less it has accessibility.
On the other hand, on probing into disadvantages, there is a need to ensure its quality.
Has minimal socializing. There can be internet connectivity problem and also need of computer
skills. There can be dishonesty. Sometimes, minimal supervision and ultimately challenges the
future.
Thereby to conclude, there are lot of online teaching and learning platforms that are
really helpful in the present pandemic times. It is in the hands of younger generation students to
make use of these in an appropriate manner. Though the old generation teachers may face issues
in handling these tools and applications, it is highly considerable to learn these and make the
education in a better way for our future generation.
