Gestation period:

 Gestation is the period of embryonic

development
 In board, gestation is the carrying of an
embryo or foetus inside female viviparous
animals. It occurs in mammals, but also occurs
for some non-mammals.
 Mammals during pregnancy can have one or
more gestations at the same time and it is
called as multiple gestations.
 The time interval of gestation is called as the
gestation period
 In human obstetrics, gestation age refers to
the embryonic or foetal age plus two weeks.
Gestation period in humans:
 In mammals, pregnancy begins when a zygote
implants in the female uterus and ends once
the foetus leaves the uterus.
 In humans, Pregnancy begins at conception
when the sperm from the male fertilizes the
egg, or ovum of the woman.
 The gestation period for humans continues
until the child is born
 The normal gestation period is about 40
weeks, but may range from 37 to 42 weeks
and still to be considered as a normal
pregnancy

Phrases of human gestation period:

 Human pregnancy can be divided roughly into
three trimesters, where each trimesters
ranges approximately for three months long
 The first trimester is from the last period of to
the 13th week.
 The second trimester is from the 14 th to 27th
week.
 The third trimester is from the 28th week to
the 42nd week.
First trimester:
 During this trimester, the foetus implants into
the womb of the woman.
 During the first month the lungs are formed,
the heart starts beating and the spinal cord is
growing.
 The placenta also develops at this point in the
first trimester.
 And the baby develops rapidly during the first
trimester.
 Arms and legs begin to bud in the first few
weeks, and by the end of eight weeks fingers
and toes starts to form
 In the second month head and facial features
begins to shape that includes eyes and mouth.
 At the beginning of the third month foetus is
around 3cm long, fingers and toes are formed
as well as sexual organs.
 At the end of third month, foetus is
approximately 8cm long and develops
immunity towards the injections thus the risk
of miscarriage is lower.
 And the uterus of the mother begins to grow.
 The mammary gland of the mother becomes
tender and larger and heavier.
Second trimester:
 During the second trimester the growth of the
baby is so fast.
 At the initial stage of fourth month, the baby
has fine hair covering the body
 The fingers of baby became mobile and they
can curl them.
 At the 20th week(5th month) of the gestation
period, most women will begin to feel the
movement of foetus
 In the fifth month sense are developed and
skin protected by a layer of a waxy secretion.
 By the end of 24weeks(6months) eye lids are
separated, eye lashes are formed
 And also a strong digestive and immune
system is formed at the end of the 6th month.
Third trimester:
 During this period, the foetus increases in size
and stretches the uterus and abdomen of the
women.
 In the first part of the 3rd trimester, the foetus
will be at its most active and movement will
be very obvious.
 As the child fills up the available space,
movement will becomes less but stronger and
women will be become more uncomfortable
 At the beginning of the last three months,
almost every organ, except for the lungs,
begins to function.
 During the seventh month the brain starts to
develop
 The movements decreases because of the
baby’s large size.
 The baby is positioned for the birth, with its
head down.
 By the end of the 9months the baby is fully
developed and ready for delivery.
Summary:
 Gestation period is the time period in which
the foetus gets develops inside the mother
womb.
 It occurs in all the mammals.
 Every mammal have different time period of
gestation period.
 Gestation period may depend on the size of
the organisms.

Observations:
 From the project it is shown that there are
many aspects in the field of biology
 And it is the explanation of intermediate
aspect of reproduction
 And it is shown that gestation period is the
very important time period for a women.
