Objective : To practice evaluating a team charter and creating a team charter

Instructions
A) Evaluate one of the example team charter on the next pages
1. Identify potential improvements
2. Evaluate the selected charter using the SMART criteria.
3. Prepare to discuss your conclusions.

For question A. we choose Example: Team Charter – Improve Customer
Satisfaction.
1. Identify potential improvements.
Business Case
 Our current delivery time average is 65% for Product XY and 75% for
Product ZY. Our customer are expecting 100% on time. As a result of
our on time performance, we have low customer satisfaction,
experience a higher level of expedites, and lower manufacturing
efficients. By improving our on time performances, we will improve
customer satisfaction, decrease the number of expedites, and lower
work process.
Opportunity Statement
 We currently have an average on time delivery of 65% for Product XY
and 75% for Product ZY. Our customers expect 100% on time. This
problems will occur when the manufacturing process does not follow
the due date. By completing this project, customers satisfaction will
increase and at once increasing the number of new customers. Cost of
doing nothing, company will facing failures.
Goal Statement
 Reduce manufacturing through put time (wip).
 Identify and correct the causes of late orders.
 Improve our on time delivery to 98% by the fourth quarter.

 Yes, it address a real business problem (customer satisfaction).

Measurable
 Yes, we able to measure the problem (delivery time average is 65% for
Product XY and 75% for Product ZY), establish a baseline (Customers
are expecting 100% on time), and set targets for improvement (improve
delivery time to 98% by the fourth quarter).

Attainable
 Project completion date is realistic which is only 5 weeks.

Relevant
 Yes, it relate to business objective (satisfied the customer).

Time Bound
 Yes, date for completion is set in Project Plan

3. Prepare to discuss your conclusions.


In a team charter, there are 6 important element: Business Case, Opportunity
Statement, Goal Statement, Project Scope, Project Plan, Team Selection.
Every element must be stated clearly. This team charter is important to
ensure the problems is real and general/basic planning to solve the problems.
Once you complete a draft of your team charter, you should evaluate the
charter to ensure it is effectiveness. One methodology for evaluation is called
“SMART”. This acronym is a checklist to ensure that the charter is effective,
thorough, and actionable.
