domain(s) addressed How does this lesson support all five domains of child development?
Approaches to learning: Students will be able to participate in a play activity where they use their
creativity painting with a Q-tip as a paint brush. They will use their imagination to create unique
artwork replicating outside during the day and night in the winter.
Social-Emotional: Students will be able to exercise patience as they work on their creative artwork.
Cognitive: Students will be able to use their imagination to associate the day by using white paint
on blue paper and night using white paint on black paper.
Language: Students will be able to express their own interpretation of day and night through their
painting.
Physical: Students will strengthen their fine motor skills as they grasp the Q-tip using pinching
fingers

Brief description and Why is there a need for this lesson (include citation)?
rationale for the lesson Engaging in this art activity will give students opportunities to work collaboratively and
independently. According to Hans Hofmann, “A work of art is a world in itself reflecting senses and
emotions of the artist’s world .” It also encourages students to express their creativity as they
strengthen their fine motor skills.
This lesson is: * A new concept/activity * A continuation of a previous lesson/activity

Students will be able to create unique artwork.

Language Objectives What language/vocabulary, communication, or literacy skill(s) do I want my students to develop in
this lesson? For edTPA consider this: Which academic language demands am I targeting? Choose
one, including language functions, vocabulary, syntax, or discourse that is central to this learning
segment. How is this activity using the specific language demand?
Activity Plan for Preschool-Age 2-3yrs

Language objectives must align with the assessment of children’s language learning

Students will be able express their ideas through art and explain what they made.

Resources/materials needed: -Blue and black paper -Smocks

applicable)

Anticipatory Set (Connection/Motivation) What will you do to get children’s attention, or to

introduce children to this learning activity? Describe the process in getting them interested and
engaged. HOOK

-While the children are sitting for a meeting, show pictures of what winter looks like during the
day and night.
- Ask students what they notice
-Ask if there is anything that’s different or the same
-Then explain that each one will get to make their own replica of the pictures

Instruction/Mini Lesson (Outline the procedures or sequence activities that will make up this
learning experience; for instance, you might follow a routine wherein you model (I try); and ask for
active involvement (we try) during a whole group session.
Activity Plan for Preschool-Age 2-3yrs

1. I would first model how to hold the Q-tip. Then dip it in white paint and then make some
circles on blue paper. Then I would dip the Q-tip back in the paint cup and then make lines
on the paper. Next I would ask students to raise their hand if they would like to try and then
instruct students to go to art center to put on a smock it they would like to try.
2. At the art table each child will choose the color paper they want ; blue to replicate day and
black for night.
3. Students are then given Q-tips and paint cups to create their artwork
4. When they are done, students will bring their artwork to a drying rack .

Independent Practice (small group activity, working with partners, or independently)

Stundents will first work independently to create their own artwork and then will be given a choice
to work collaboratively to create a class mural.
Closure (sharing/reflection, next steps)
Students will take turns to talk about their artwork. Then our next step will be to paint with
paint brushes to create a snow painting using shaving cream and glue.

Follow up/Extension How can I provide an opportunity to remediate, reinforce, or expand on students’ learning today in
activities class?
To expand on students learning, a variety of ways to paint will be incorporated. For example,
painting with yarn to create another artwork. They can also express their creativity through art
using a squeeze glue bottle and sustainable materials.

Family Engagement Activities

How can I support families in extending the learning in their home environment?

In order for Students to continue to work on fine motor, families can have them paint using

paint with them.
