e) Steven buys a washing machine for £350. In the first year, the value of the machine decreases

f) A new car cost £20 000 on January 1st, 2017. It depreciates by 20% in the first year, 10% in
the second year. Find the multiplier for compound percentage change. Find the value of the
car after 2 years.
g) A bank account pays 3% pa interest on all credit balances for a period of two years then it
reduces to 2% pa for the years ahead. A £1000 is the credit balance on Day1. How long before
the deposit is worth £1100?
h) Kamil invests £1000 for 5 years at a compound interest rate of 2% per annum. Jamila invests
£1000 for 2 years at a compound interest rate of 5% per annum. Calculate who has the most
money at the end of their investment
i) Tim buys a car for £5000. Its value decreases by 6% per year. By how much the value has

23. (a) Sean and Ricki share sweets in the ratio 3:2. Sean has 48 sweets; how many sweets does

(b) A blend of tea is made by mixing Lapsang with Assam in the ratio 3:5. I have a lot of
Assam tea but only 600 g of Lapsang. How many Assam do I need to make the blend using all
of the Lapsang tea?
(c) A Fruit drink contains mango juice and orange juice in the ratio 3:4. There is 450mL of
orange juice in the drink. How many milliliters of mango juice are in the drink? How much
fruit juice is in the drink altogether?
(d) Samar makes a ice cream drink. She uses mango ice cream, mango juice and
orange juice in the ratio 1:4:5. Samar has plenty of mango ice cream, but only 2250
mL of mango juice and 2750 mL of orange. She makes as much ice cream drink as she
can with these ingredients. How much of each ingredient does she use? Show how
you worked out your answer.
(e) Iqra is making a drink from lemonade, orange, and ginger ale in the ratio 40: 9:1. She only
has 4.5 liters of orange juice, how much of the other two ingredients will she needs to make
the drink?
