Statement of Purpose

The story 'Birth' highlights the importance of practical experience in the medical
field. It proves sometimes more effective in saving lives or in curing deadly
diseases. Dr Andrew applied hot and cold water technique to restore life in a
newborn baby. The baby appeared to be stillborn, lifeless, boneless and lax. The
nurse put it beneath the patient's bed as a lost case while the young doctor was
making feverish efforts to save the mother who was sinking.
Then he turned to the midwife and asked for the child. He pulled it out from under
the bed and dipped it alternately in hot and icy cold water. Then he pressed the
little chest gently and released it. He too had nearly accepted defeat.
But his last effort did the miracle. The baby started breathing and getting oxygen.
Its white skin turned pink and it gave out a cry. Everybody thanked God for the
miracle.
Primarily there are two purposes to birth and they have not changed since creation
began. First is to go through experience. Experiences were created in the form of
a physical body the physical creation and soul was sent to get that experience
Overworked Andrew also had the greatest satisfaction of his medical career. He
had done something real.
The theme of the story revolves around the efforts being put in by medical
practitioners in treating their patients. Andrew, the protagonist, is dealing with a
critical medical birth case.
Science and society are connected by medicine. Indeed, a key component of
medical practice is the application of scientific knowledge to human health. One
significant agent for the expression of the scientific knowledge is the doctor. But
medicine is more than just the sum of our understanding of illness. Medicine is
concerned with how people perceive, feel, and interpret their frequently
remarkable times of dread, worry, and uncertainty. The public's confidence in
doctors is supported by medical professionalism in this incredibly precarious
situation. The purpose of this Working Party is to describe the nature and function
of medical professionalism in contemporary society. The health care system in
Britain is going through a lot of upheaval.

A clear definition of medicine's unifying goal and physicians' shared values is

necessary in light of the entry of many health providers, the need for more
equitable participation between patients and experts, and the growing contribution
of research to advancements in clinical practise.

The major goal of this study is to learn about doctor and people’s attitudes toward
medical practices involving experience. We are able to conceptualize the
understanding of it as a result of this research.

Does professionalism in medicine important to patients? What does it mean?

Action Plan

A detailed research and plan was made to carry out this research. This was done
individually, so I chose a method that can be feasible in the covid times. The
following steps were taken into account

1. To choose among the various research methods and then boiled down to
Survey
2. Constructed the questionnaire
3. Then edited the questionnaire according to the feedback
4. Then, I conducted the actual survey by sending across the questionnaires in
form of google forms to the selected sample.
5. Keeping all the results and interview observations, I made out a report
6. Finally, I wrote down my takeaways or student reflection from the research

INTRODUCTION OF THE PROJECT

In this project we are showing you the research on how with faith ,
commitment and selfless devotion to duty , there’s nothing that cannot
achieve . Faith not only means worshipping or believing in an idol. One can
have faith without any prayers or any idols. Faith goes a long way in making
an individual's life happier and full of achievements. Having faith is
necessary as even if one fails, faith gives them the strength to embrace the
failures and try again . Faith is the only power that inspires a human being
in despair. But if a person loses faith during the period of struggle, he gives
up hope for any success and succumbs to the unfavorable situations. So, an
individual without faith is as good as a dead person. His life is just like a
deflated balloon. And now if we talk about commitment, Commitment is
more than a promise to do or give something. It is the state or quality of
being dedicated and maintaining an attitude of someone who works
extremely hard to do or support something. Commitment not only requires
full attention, but also requires diversity. Commitment helps you stick to
your goals during the good times and the bad times — when barriers get in
the way. Two factors contribute to commitment: importance and ability.
Commitment creates a bond of mutual trust. It creates an understanding
and obligation between two parties just like we see in the chapter birth the
commitment between the patient and the doctor . It provides purpose and a
pledge to uphold. If you say that someone is selfless, you approve of them
because they care about other people more than themselves. What is
devotion to duties?

Devotion to duty means strong feelings of loyalty, love, and admiration that a

worker has for the work that enables his desire to exert more time, energy, and
effort in carrying out his duty. As we have already read in this chapter that how
much important is the doctors selfless devotion to duty . he has to think about his
patients before putting anyone else first… No matter how impossible a situation
may seem, there is always hope to emerge victorious and prove yourself, as in the
case of Andrew. He never gave up when he saw the stillborn child. Also, each life
is a miracle.
THEME OF THE STORY

The title of the chapter ‘The Birth’ is perfect. The theme of the story is
about a young doctor, Andrew dealing with a critical birth case. The
baby is born lifeless. He takes certain decisions that prove quite
successful. Not only he succeeds in saving the mother who is in critical
condition after the delivery, but also succeeds in reviving the child. So
the baby born lifeless is born again owing to the efforts of the
dedicated doctor. Hence the title is perfectly appropriate and justified .
The summary of Birth touches upon various themes which are central
to not just medical practitioners but also to humans in general.

This story teaches us how one needs to keep his/her problems aside
and focus on the situation present at the moment. This is portrayed by
Andrew excellently when he chooses to focus on delivering Mrs.
Morgan’s child rather than bothering about his fight with his girlfriend.

This story also teaches learners about how stressful situations can be
handled by prioritizing. He chooses to save the mother and then
focuses on the baby even though he was aware that the couple had
been waiting to have a baby for the past 20 years. He makes a decision,
shows faith in it, and sticks to it.

Lastly, this story highlights how we should avoid instant gratification

and not stop until we have given our one hundred percent in
overcoming a hurdle. After saving the mother’s life, he turns his
attention towards the stillborn baby and continues to apply everything
he has learned to bring him to life.

All these efforts finally bore fruits and he leaves Mr. Morgan’s house
with a sense of satisfaction. This shows how gratifying it is for humans
to put their everything into something which everyone else assumes to
be not worth it and in the end come out with flying colours. More than
anything, putting in the effort and not giving up matters.

This story teaches us the importance of life and the power of having

faith . this also teaches us about the human morals like completing the

commitment that we have made , and making efforts never giving up

on anything and achieving the goal of your life with full motivation and

effort .
BACKGROUND OF THE STORY

The background of the story is  an extract from The Citadel. Moreover,
it narrates how a medical fresher handles a case of child delivery. Also,
in a secretive way, he gets back living in an apparently dead child. He
applies all his medical knowledge and instincts for doing so. Further,
the story states the excitement of the doctor and his team.

At the start, the story describes how Andrew Manson recently out from
medical school, was returning home after a quarrel with her girlfriend,
Christine. On reaching home, he finds Joe Morgan waiting for him to
attend to his wife. Despite the night he agrees to attend her as she was
expecting her first child in 20 years.

At Joe’s house, he saw midwife attending the lady who was very
serious. Andrew sees Mrs Morgan and took a pause as he could
understand that it would take some time. While sitting his mind starts to
wander in the thoughts of other people. Like Barnwell who foolishly
devoted all his life to a woman who betrayed him. In addition, he
remembers Edward page who married an ill-nature Bowden and was
now living unhappily, separately from his wife. Meanwhile, Andrew
had to go back to attend the patient.

After an hour-long and harsh struggle a child was born towards the
dawn but it was lifeless. On seeing the child Andrew shook with horror.
Subsequently, he looks to the mother who needs immediate attention.
So, Andrew has to choose whom to attend: the mother or the child.

He gave the child to nurse and attend the mother first who was
unconscious. Steadily, her heartbeat strengthens and Andrew could now
attend the baby. Afterwards, Andrew inquired the midwife about the
child whom she had put it under the bed among the soaked newspaper.
So, Andrew pulls out the child who was perfectly formed. He couldn’t
recognise that it’s a case of asphyxia due to lack of oxygen and excess
of carbon dioxide in the blood. Moreover, he did not lose heart and
starts to give the necessary treatment to the child. However, the midwife
told him again and again that it is stillborn but he didn’t listen. Also, he
continues his treatment.

Near the conclusion, a wonder occurred, he rubbed the child with a

towel crushed and relaxed the little chest with both his hands. He tries
to fill breath into the limp body. After some time, the little chest gave a
short difficult motion and the child starts turning around.

Eventually, Andrew flung a sigh of relief and handed the child to the
nurse. Afterwards, he stated the whole story to Joe who was standing
outside and walked down the street. He has a sense of deep satisfaction
that he could achieve something great.

In the end it highlights the the efforts of doctors and wants to say that
we should keep on trying. We should never ever give up on anything..
Report

Patients understand the meaning of inadequate professionalism and link it with

subpar medical care, even if there isn't enough data to prove that it would definitely
result in improved health results. The general people is fully aware of the dangers
of a lack of professionalism to their interests. The Working Party believes that
medical professionalism is fundamental to becoming a good doctor, based on the
data it has received. The principles that doctors uphold serve as a benchmark for
what consumers should expect from their healthcare providers. The requirement
for judgement in the face of uncertainty distinguishes the profession of medicine.

Doctors are accountable for their decisions and the results of those decisions. The
stated scientific and frequently implicit experience basis for such judgments is
provided by a doctor's current knowledge and expertise. Doctors are subject to the
criticism that their judgments are neither transparent nor responsible because so
much of medicine's unpredictability requires judgement in addition to technical
skill. Doctors need to be more transparent about what they do, how they do it, and
why they do it in this age where respect is dead and league tables are the standard.
We describe medical professionalism as a collection of principles, actions, and
interactions that support the public's faith in physicians. We continue by defining
these values, behaviors, and connections as well as how they are evolving and why
they are important.

The political and cultural climate around health, which many doctors view as
crippling, restricts the practice of medicine.

The future of professionalism will be greatly influenced by the circumstances

around medical practice. We contend that physicians have an obligation to uphold
the principles outlined in this study. Additionally, other healthcare team members,
particularly managers, have a reciprocal obligation to assist in building an
organizational framework to aid doctors in carrying out their professional duties.
The contact between a doctor and management is essential to providing
professional care, just as the doctor-patient relationship is a crucial therapeutic one
in medicine. Successful medical teams and effective medical organizations are
essential to providing high-quality treatment.

Professionalism therefore implies multiple commitments--to the patient, to fellow

professionals, and to the institution or system within which healthcare is provided,
to the extent that the system supports patients collectively.
Student Reflection

The findings revealed the participants' choice of practicing doctors as well as their
experience matter equally. Another factor that came into play was the political and
cultural environment.

This study yielded a great deal of knowledge. It reflected the value experience. I
also learned that only one determining factor does not make a person superior. We
all live in a collectivist society in which each individual is valued.

We also learned from the chapter that No matter how impossible a situation may
seem, there is always hope to emerge victorious and prove yourself, as in the case
of Andrew. He never gave up when he saw the stillborn child. Also, each life is a
miracle. .

Also , now I understand the perfect meaning of faith , commitment and selfless
devotion of duty . And yes being a doctor is for sure very tough job like you have
to be perfect in everything like medicines , treatment , surgeries or what not .
Doctors are heroes of the country those who don’t fight at borders but dedicatedlly
Work for saving lives and improving life expectancy while putting their lives at
risk , we call them Doctors . Their contribution towards the human is beyond
expectations. We should respect doctors always and be grateful to them always .
During COVID – 19 we lost many doctors because of that disease and the doctors
lost their lives while curing us from that harmful disease .

I am grateful to my teacher for providing me with such a good platform and theme
on which to conduct research that will benefit me in the future. This study cleared
the way for more research and taught me how to conduct surveys and interviews,
both of which will help me in my profession and future studies.
CONCLUSION

So, In the conclusion I would like to add that I learned the

importance of doctors in our life and if we have faith inside us
we cannot loose any battle . So according to me we should never
ever give just like doctors .
Through this chapter , the writer highlights the efforts of doctors
and want to say that we should keep on trying and trying untill
we achieve the goal…
