Question/ Google occasionally updates the user interface for Google products. In order to configure Gmail to work
Problem with CIC, follow these instructions. These instructions will be updated as Google updates.

Answer/ Details This article attempts to provide the latest instructions in order to help configure the Google side of things
when integrating CIC with Gmail. If these instructions are outdated, please contact the Postal Team of
Product Support.

1. Log in to the Google Developers Console. It is suggested to use an account that represents the CIC
administrator account. Google Developers Console can currently be found at this address:
https://console.developers.google.com
2. Click Create a Project. The link to Create a Project can be in a number of places.
3. Enter a Project name and any other relevant information. Click Create. In the below picture, the
Project name has been set to "Gmail Project Name".

4. After selecting Create, the Project will be created and you are redirected to the Developer
Dashboard.
5. If you have multiple Projects, you may need to select the Project you created. You must do this if
the Project you created is not listed here.

After clicking the dropdown, a new window will be presented. Choose the appropriate project from

the list.
6. Click Credentials. It is located on the left side under Overview.

7. If you do not have any previous credentials defined, you will be prompted with an informational
dialog box like the one shown below. Click the Create credentials dropdown and select Service
account key. If you do have previous credentials defined, the dialog will not be shown. Click the
Create credentials dropdown and select Service account key.

8. Choose the Service account dropdown and select New service account. Enter a name. Assign the
role "Owner" in the Role dropdown. In the below picture, the Service account name has been set to
"GmailServiceAccount".

9. Ensure that the JSON radio button is selected for Key Type. Click Create.
10. Clicking Create should have caused your browser to download a file. This is the JSON file that will
be used later when configuring CIC. Store this file in a safe place and memorable location as you
can not re-download the file. It is possible to create a new service account if the JSON file is lost.
This information is also covered in a Google dialog that should have been displayed. Click Close to
proceed.
11. After creating the service account, you are redirected to the Credentials page once again.
12. Click Manage service accounts. It is located on the right hand of the screen.

13. Click on the three vertical dots icon for Options. After clicking, your screen should display the
Options dropdown as shown below.

14. Click Edit.


15. Click the "SHOW DOMAIN-WIDE DELEGATION" option.
16. The below picture should show the available options to configure.

17. Click the Enable G Suite Domain-wide Delegation checkbox.


1. If the OAuth Consent Screen has not been configured, Google will display a warning such as
shown below. Either enter an appropriate Product name for the consent screen or click
CONFIGURE CONSENT SCREEN. Note that clicking CONFIGURE CONSENT
SCREEN will redirect you to another page.

2. If configuring the consent screen, input an appropriate string for Application name and
click Save.
18. Click Save.
19. Click View Client ID for the service account you just created.

20. Copy the Client ID value for later use. This will be used later configuring the Administrator console
(https://admin.google.com).
21. Navigate to https://admin.google.com and log in with your Administrative account. Note that
having your domain registered with Google is a prerequisite of this step.
22. Click the Security icon.
23. Click Show More and then Advanced settings. Depending on your view, Advanced settings may
show by default.
24. Click Manage API client access.
25. Input the Client ID (from step 20 above) into the Client Name field. Input
https://mail.google.com/ into the One or More API Scopes field.
26. Click Authorize

That concludes the configuration necessary within Google Developers Console. The CIC server must still
be configured to utilize Gmail. Please follow the Gmail Technical Reference for configuring CIC.
