    Both J.J. Thompson's 1897 model and Niels Bohr's 1913 model depicted the atom as having negatively charged particles inside a sphere, with Thompson proposing these were distributed uniformly throughout while Bohr suggested they orbited the nucleus in fixed shells. The key difference was that Bohr's model introduced the concept of electron shells and stationary orbits which represented an improvement over Thompson's earlier uniform distribution model based just on experimental evidence available at the time.

    Since Ancient Greek times, the theory of the atom has developed as evidence has been
    proved about what is inside an atom. We now know the atom isn’t the smallest unit of life,
    there are sub-atomic particles inside of it. Below are 2 models of the atom. JJ Thompson’s
    model was discovered in 1897, whereas Bohr’s atom model was uncovered in 1913. JJ
    Thompson’s model has negatively charged particles within the atom sphere, and similarly
    Bohr’s atom model also includes them.
