Skelton Parish Council The next meeting will be in the Village Hall at

Skelton Village Trust Speaker Evening Thursday 1st November at
7.30pm in the Village Hall. In Brave Company –The Making of
a Memorial: a presentation by sculptor and artist Peter Naylor about the
designing and building of the RAF 158 Squadron Memorial at Lissett
in East Yorkshire and the inspiration which led to it. Tickets £5 to include a
buffet supper and glass of wine or soft drink will be available from
committee members and the village shop from mid October.
Harvest Service and Supper On Friday 12th October, Service at 6.30pm
in St Giles' Church with a retiring collection for Carecent in York. The
service will be followed by a two-course supper in the Village Hall with
entertainment from a saxophone quartet. Tickets £10 for adults, £5 for

Coffee, Chat and Books
This month we meet on Wednesday 10th October from 10.00 -11.30am in
Skelton Village Hall. (Next month we will go back to the first Wednesday of
the month, as usual.) Refreshments on hand, plenty of chat and many

Skelton Walking Group
Next walk, Saturday 6th October, an exploration of the Rosedale Railway
(6.5 miles with some inclines). Please bring a packed lunch and meet at

Hello from Danny and Debbie Holmes at The Blacksmith’s Arms. We
are holding a coffee morning in aid of our chosen charity Macmillan, on the
8th October from 11am until 2pm. We will be serving coffee tea and cake.
Please come along and support us and this very worthwhile charity.
Mobile Library in Skelton. The Mobile Library visits Skelton every two
weeks. As well as borrowing books & audio books, you can update your
library card or York Card, return books from any other York library, &
request books to be brought to Skelton for you to borrow. The library stops
in Fairfields Drive from 2.40pm to 3.10pm and Brecksfield from
3.15pm to 3.50pm. Alternate Mondays, 8th and 22nd October. For more

Skelton Primary School are very pleased to welcome their new interim
Headteacher, Mrs Michaela Carney, from September. Mrs Carney, the
school staff and governors are all very keen to develop closer links with the
local community to ensure that the school is a thriving part of the village for
local children and for those coming from the surrounding areas.
The school currently has places across all year groups and can offer small
class sizes, high quality teaching with great results compared with national
standards, fantastic resources and a wonderful leafy site. The school offers
nursery provision for 3-4 year olds with funded places for 15 and 30 hours
in addition to breakfast and after school clubs for Rec-Y6 children

Church Repairs Due to a much appreciated generous donation by a
villager with a keen interest in the fabric of the building, we can now

Nun Monkton ferry boat service has recently been introduced, crossing
the river from the SW corner of the Beningbrough Estate to Nun Monkton.
This operates Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays from 11.00-4.00pm
and is scheduled to run until the end of October. An easy walk into the
delightful village of Nun Monkton… the Alice Hawthorne pub is situated in
the middle of the village.
New Shipton 100 Club – you have to be in it to win it!
The Playground Committee is excited to announce a new 100 club to raise
funds for playground maintenance & new equipment. A personalised
numbered annual ticket will cost £2.50 per month (£30 annually collected
up front) with a chance of winning a monthly prize. The monthly draw will
have a 1st prize and equal 2nd & 3rd prizes. All money paid into the 100
club will be split 50/50 between the playground & winners. The more
tickets bought, the higher the prize money. Help your community and you

The first draw will be January 2019 and tickets will be valid for the whole of
