WORSHIP CALENDAR Happy Easter – you fools!

Rude I know, but Easter day this year falls on the first of April,
Sunday 1st April Easter Day April Fools’ day, and often Christians are portrayed as fools
Skelton 9.30am Family Communion for believing in something that cannot be proved or
Shipton 10.00am Family Communion disproved. However, St Paul in his first letter to the
Corinthians, written in about 54AD, turns this around by
Newton 11.00am Family Communion saying ‘For the message about the cross is foolishness to those
who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the
Saturday 7th April power of God.’ In other words, the fools are those who don’t
believe in the power of God over sin and death.

AGM Notice. The Annual Parochial Church Meeting for St Giles’ Church
will be held in church on Tuesday 24th April at 7pm. All persons whose
names appear on the church Electoral Roll may vote at the AGM. The
Electoral Roll is currently being updated. If you wish your name to appear
on the revised Roll, and have not completed an Application Form, these
may be found at the back of the church
Toilet Funds for Newton and Skelton. If you would like to help with either

Choir seeks singers! St Giles Church is forming a choir to sing twice a
month, at morning service. If you would like to be part of this initiative

Thank you to all those who came to our quiz night in February. We raised
£305 for church funds. Many thanks to Mrs Sue Procter, Jaci and Ed at the
golf club, for enabling us to have a great evening. Carolyn & Andrew
Skelton Village Trust Speaker Evening & AGM Thursday April 5th,
7.30pm, Village Hall. Speaker is Historian Gillian Waters. Subject: "Queen
Cartimandua and the Kingdom of the Brigantes; the story of a northern
queen and her dealings with the Roman invaders." This event is open to
all. Free admission by complimentary ticket -includes a buffet supper and
glass of wine/soft drink - obtainable mid-March onwards from committee
members or the village shop
Skelton Village Hall. The Management Committee will hold its AGM on
Wednesday April 11th in the Hall at 8.15pm. All welcome
Coffee, Chat and Books Wednesday April 4th, 10.00-11.30, Skelton
Village Hall. Bargain Books, 50p, or 3 for £1. Pop in for a cuppa and a

Skelton Gardening Club, Thursday April 19th, 7.30pm, Village Hall, AGM
followed by “Unnatural Gardening” by Peter Williams New members

Skelton Walking Group. Join us on Saturday April 7th for a moderate 7
mile scenic walk in the Osmotherley area. Meet at th village green at

Mobile Library in Skelton. The Mobile Library visits Skelton every two
weeks. The library stops in Fairfields Drive from 2.40pm to 3.10pm and
Brecksfield from 3.15pm to 3.50pm (Note new times). Mondays April 9th and

Skelton Primary School are seeking someone with a financial background to
become a volunteer Governor at our wonderful, small, village primary school.
The individual will work with our existing Governors and Headteacher and will
be able to bring their financial experience to the role, offering advice and
guidance on a range of school related issues. If you are interested in applying

SHIPTON WITH OVERTON NEWS
Church repairs. Recently one of the West stained-glass windows of Holy
Evangelists’, Shipton (the ones facing the A19) has been broken and
needs repair. The cost is likely to be in the region of £2000 and, as it
appears to be due to wear and tear, we cannot claim on our insurance. If
you feel this is something you would like to contribute to please contact
Rev Trevor or Kathy Peacock or Carole Todd (Churchwardens). Many

Friends of Forest of Galtres have been busy arranging fun events for children
& families as well as raising money for the school: we have had a Valentine's
Disco, a pre-loved book & uniform sale & a family Easter Egg decorating
afternoon. Next is a Bags2School collection: send your old clothes & textiles
into school by Tuesday April 24th & these will be weighed & money sent to the
Friends. Funded places for 3-year olds. We now offer the full 30 hours
extended entitlement for 3-year olds in our newly developed Early Years area.
This can also include breakfast & after school club in our wraparound care. Our
school Early Years team has lots of experience in schools & independent
settings & includes a fully qualified EYFS teacher & two highly skilled ATAs,
one with Early Years Professional Status. For more information please contact
