Skelton 9.30am Family Communion themselves.

Skelton WI Monthly meeting Village Hall, 7.30pm July 13th “Shades of
Summer” Flower Demonstration extravaganza with the brilliant Andrew
Grisewood. Refreshments will be available and an opportunity to win one

Coffee, chat and books Skelton Village Hall, Wednesday July 5th &
August 2nd, 10 - 11.30 (every first Wednesday of the month). NEW:
Jigsaw Swap. Bring your old jigsaws to swap with others. All welcome—
grandparents to young mums!
Skelton Gardening Club meets again on Thursday September 21st,
7.30pm, Village Hall. Annual membership subscription of £10 due at the
September meeting. New members always welcome. Small charge of £3
for guests
Skelton Walking Group Saturday July 1st. Meet at the village green at
9.30am and bring a picnic lunch for a 6 mile walk from Ampleforth in the
Howardian Hills. Call 01904 470798
Saturday August 5th. Join us for a 7 mile walk from Goathland in the hills
and dales of the North York Moors, including (very short) sections of a
Roman road and the Lyke Way Walk. Meet on The Green at 9.30am and
bring refreshments for a coffee stop and picnic. For further details/transport

Children's Society collecting boxes. This year I will collect the boxes in
AUGUST because we need to bank all the old £1 coins before October.

Blacksmith’s Arms, Skelton. Traditional Sunday Lunch served 12-3pm
every Sunday. Quiz Night every Thursday evening from 8.00pm. £1 per

Mobile Library in Skelton. The Mobile Library visits Skelton every two
weeks. As well as borrowing books & audio books, you can update your
library card or York Card, return books from any other York library, &
request books to be brought to Skelton for you to borrow. The library stops
in Fairfields Drive from 2.00pm to 2.45pm & Brecksfield from 2.50pm to
4.00pm. Mondays July 3rd, 17th and 31st. August 11th (not 28th). For

Great childcare news for parents of children aged 16 months to 12 years!
York Childcare are pleased to announce that from September 2017 they are
expanding at Skelton Community Primary School and will be able to offer: Full
day childcare for children aged 16 months to 12 years, Breakfast club (0730-
0845), After School club (1515-1800), and Holiday Club - all year round.
The Playgroup/Pre-School will be open to children from 16 months to 4 years
and will provide a safe, stimulating, loving and homely environment where
children can flourish. If you would like to register your child/children for any of

SHIPTON WITH OVERTON NEWS
Please note that morning services will now begin at 10.00am. Thank
you for your feedback about the time of the morning service in Shipton
Church of the Holy Evangelists. The PCC has decided to change the time to
10.00am.
Shipton Methodist Chapel & Shipton Space. It is with much sadness that
the York Methodist Circuit has decided to discontinue its Shipton Space
initiative at the Methodist Chapel from August 1st, 2017. When worship
ceased at the chapel in 2013 the York Methodist Circuit, in partnership with
local residents, established a regular community café & cinema evenings,
with the aim of exploring the possibility of establishing a new Methodist
congregation in the village. However, it has decided that it would be more
beneficial to better support its partnership with Forest of Galtres Anglican/
Methodist Primary School. As a result, it is currently exploring the sale of
Shipton Chapel & adjoining land, whilst supporting the relocation of the
Tuesday Community Café to the Shipton Community Centre from
September 2017. We would like to offer our heartfelt thanks to all those who
have supported both the café & cinema nights, particularly those who have
volunteered their time & resources to make Shipton Space enjoyable for all
during the last two years. Of course, we don’t close until the end of July!
Please join us on Tuesday afternoons from 2-4.30pm & for our next Cinema
Night on Thursday July 13th at 7.30pm
Shipton Space Cinema Night Our next cinema night will be on July 13th. Doors
open at 7pm for 7.30pm start. Suggested donation on entry of £5. For more

Shipton Community Cafe. As a result of the decision by the Methodist
organisation to discontinue supporting the projects at the former chapel, the
community cafe will relocate to Shipton Community Centre with effect from
September 5th. We shall look forward to welcoming customers old and new
Shipton Bike Ride Sunday July 2nd. Routes suitable for all ages. Meet at the
Dawnay Arms pub car park to start at 3pm. BBQ from 5pm, all welcome
(including non-cyclists). Raising money for the Holy Evangelist church, Shipton.

Shipton Chill Zone Youth Club, at Shipton Space, Main Street, Shipton by
Beningbrough. For young people from the surrounding villages, in school years 6
to 9. Runs fortnightly on a Thursday 19:00-20:30. Next meetings July 6th & 20th.
£1.50 entry, includes drink & a snack. Lots of great activities planned. For more

Forest of Galtres Primary School Plans for our Foundation Stage provision for
3 and 4 year olds are coming together & from September 2017 we are expecting
to admit 3 year olds to school. This means we will be able to offer the full 30
funded hours for parents in the area including before & after-school care from
8am to 5:30pm. Sessions can also be mixed across different providers if families
wish. To find out more, please contact the school.
