Elements
- Simplest pure substance that make up all matter (solid , liquid, gas)
- Contain on only one type of atom
- The complete list of elements can be found in the Modern Periodic table. At
present, there are 118 elements.
- Elements have chemical symbol.
- Elements are very important to people and to surroundings. Different elements
have different uses.
- Show videos about the Elements.

Abstraction
Compounds
- Pure substances that contain two or more elements that are chemically combined.
- Can be decomposed by a chemical change into simpler substance.
- Always remember that compounds have different properties from the element that
make it up.
- Used as food, ingredients in cooking and baking, condiments, beauty
products, medicine.
- Are essential things in daily living, in disaster time, in disease, in war or arm
conflict.

- Collect answers from the students if there are compounds that can be found in their
kitchen and their uses.
- Generalization
1. Elements contain (1 or 2) type of atom.
Application 2. Elements (can be or cannot be) broken down into simpler substance by either
physical or chemical means
3. Compounds contain atoms of (1 or 2) or more different elements combined
chemically.
4. Compounds can be broken down into simpler substance by (chemical or
physical means)
