approval will be considered cheating and will result in disqualification.
No smart devices will be allowed in the assessment room.

Section A

Instruction: this section consists of Eight (8) Multiple choice questions; attempt all questions by
circling the best possible answer. One (1) mark is allotted for each correct response.

1. Constant Superheat is:

(a) Heating refrigerant above sub cooled gas

(b) Heating refrigerant above condensing temperature
(c) Normally associated with a TXV system
(d) Normally associated with a capillary tube device

2. What is “hot pull-down”?

(a) When the evaporator is subject to higher temperature and loads than under normal
operating conditions
(b) The defrost period of a freezer
(c) The head pressure a system experience during pump-down
(d) The suction pressure a system experience during pump-down

2. Having just installed an air conditioning unit with R-22 refrigerant and commissioned
by you. The customer called the next day to inform you that the unit is not cooling .
What could be the possible cause of the unit NOT cooling? This is because
(a) Too much refrigerant in the system
(b) A refrigerant leak on the system
(c) A blockage in the drain line
(d) A high voltage on the system

4. A Hermetic compressor is a compressor which is:

(a) Used only in refrigerant

(b) Totally enclosed and not serviceable
(c) A serviceable compressor
(d) No longer used

5. Head pressure refers to the pressure in/at the:

(a) Suction line

(b) Evaporator
(c) Suction side of the compressor
(d) Pressure at the condenser

6. Sensible heat describes

(a) How fast heat travels

(b) The quality of the heat
(c) The velocity of the heat in a substance
(d) The heat potential of a substance

7. In an air conditioning and refrigeration system what occurs in the evaporator

(a) latent heat is condense

(b) latent heat is released
(c) The refrigerant absorbs latent heat
(d) The refrigerant release latent heat

8. Pressure on the high pressure side of mechanical refrigeration unit is called

(a) Suction pressure

(b) Discharge/ head pressure
(c) Absolute pressure
(d) Differential pressure

Section B
This section consists of seven (7) true and false questions. One (1) mark is allotted to each
correct response. Circle True or False to indicate your choice for each question.

1. A refrigerant is an NON chemical substance. True or False

2. As the temperature of the evaporator drops the amount of superheat decreases.
True or False
3. Refrigerant flows through the TXV are controlled by the temperature in the suction line.

refrigerant into liquid. True or False

6. The windings of a motor are NOT insulated copper wire True or False

7. Motors help in the aid of the drive fans for condenser in an air condition unit.
