Introduction

Over the past few decades, the working environment has undergone a major

transformation, especially in terms of the workforce's demographic trends. Baby boomers,

Generation X, millennials, and Generation Z will represent the most dominant generations in the

workforce in 2022. Addressing generational conflict at work has become more difficult than ever

in recent years. It has gained popularity across newspaper, digital, and social media platforms.

According to Organization behavior and Human Relations, Baby Boomers, Generation

X, and millennials are the three generations that compose the majority of today's workforce, with

Generation Z only recently starting to join the ranks. The longest-tenured workers, baby

boomers, have a great deal of knowledge and expertise. They desire and frequently assume that

others would value their suggestions and judgments. Baby Boomers think that long hours

represent hard work and that the greatest goal in the workplace should be honesty. They are

renowned for "living to work" and attach great importance to professional development and

promotion. They regularly work in a collaborative setting and are credited with establishing a

meeting culture. Economic events have been a rollercoaster for Generation X. Their professional

decisions, job performances, and career futures have been influenced by economic crises and

economic booms. In contrast to Baby Boomers, Generation X values their time away from work

and has a more "work to live" approach. Although they have a strong work ethic, they place the

utmost value on maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Millennials, commonly referred to as

Generation Y, are the newest workers in the current time. The typical lifestyle of Generation Y

included two working parents and a to-do list that remained accessible. As a result, Generation Y

is able to multitask and appreciates having a good work-life balance. But unlike Generation X,

Generation Y feels that in order to enjoy their spare time, they must cross activities off their to-

do list. As a result, Generation Y is known for being very effective and goal-oriented. Lastly,

Generation Z has never experienced life without technology. They were raised in a "always on"

environment where technology was easily accessible and frequently used. Many parents in this

generation use technology to watch their children, and it is also used in classrooms. Generation Z

is incredibly technologically aware because of this continual access to technology, but it has also

altered behavior and lifestyle. It is yet to be established if these adaptations in behavior and way

of life will last into maturity. With the eldest members of Generation Z commencing to enter the

workforce in 2020 at the age of 23, this generation has just started.

Purpose

The purpose of this research is to identify on what are the Employee Health and Wellness

Program will be effective for different Workforce Generations since the growth in age diversity

has led to discussions on how generational differences may affect how our organizations work

(Corrington, A., 2019).

Key Issues

The key issue of this paper is that due to different age gaps since the expectations and life

experiences of employees from different generations differ in the workplace as every generation

brings a different set of traits, qualities, and ideals to the workplace. This is crucial to understand

since individual characteristics affect how individuals communicate and seek to be managed.

Therefore, the goal of this research is to determine the typical characteristics that these

generations could share at work in order for them to find everything comfortable.

Background

Even though every person is unique, there are some typical distinctions in how people

who were born at various ages view their jobs and workplaces. You can discover the conflict's

root causes and potential solutions by understanding these differences.

Due to the attitudes, values, and beliefs of the various age groups, there is a possibility of

conflict in a workplace where people of different generations work together. Stereotypes are

therefore frequent. For instance, senior employees may accuse younger employees of being

inattentive or disrespectful to authority. Younger employees may stereotype older employees as

outdated and resistant to change.

Different generations can function in quite different ways in the workplace. There are

many potential causes for this, including advancements in technology and education. It is crucial

to recognize and comprehend these distinctions as the workforce grows more diverse,

particularly when managing employees of different generations.

One of the most significant changes between generations in the workplace is access to

technology. Baby boomers are digital immigrants who might not be computer proficient,

whereas millennials are digital natives. Additionally, younger generations are more likely than

older ones to accept new technologies, which might lead to conflict in the workplace across the

generations.

How various generations interpret success at work is another generational challenge in

the workplace. Baby boomers cherish direct contact with coworkers and have a tendency to think

that putting in long hours is what determines success. Millennials, on the other hand, think that

creativity and adaptability are essential elements for success in the workplace.

There may be some communication problems among employees when there are up to

five different generations present in the workforce. For instance, there can be a misunderstanding

if an employee wants to use emails to make sure everything is recorded but the person they are

speaking with prefers a more informal text message or phone conversation.

Older generations typically prefer face-to-face communication and become irritated when

efforts at communication are rejected or misinterpreted due to excessive use of technology. It can

be challenging for older generations to grasp how younger generations communicate because of

technology.

Lastly, the educational backgrounds of each generation also influence how they approach

problem-solving and making decisions in the job. The majority of baby boomers had an

education before computers were a common part of life, but millennials grew up with computers

and had significantly different educational experiences than their parents.

Conclusion and Recommendation

The task for supervisors is to maintain employee engagement and motivation. This is no

simple task, especially given that up to five generations may coexist in the same job.

The benefit programs are one of the regular engagements of the employees. These

include significant benefits like SSS, PhilHealth, and Pag-IBIG. The appreciated benefits

category also includes the offer of meal stipends, business travel, and other leisure activities for

employees. Lastly for the benefit program is the X-factor, these are the type of benefits that are

not yet visible in the current type of benefit and still in the concept of identifying what will be

the X-factor.

Another recommendation would be the Employee Wellness Center, this is a one-stop-shop for

employees of all generations that provides their health and wellness needs. This is a place where
Talent Management Castro M., Nantin A., Villarba M. Holy Angel University

employees can have a Consultation which is most likely to be all about the physical, mental,

emotional and other aspects that could offer, especially the mental wellbeing of our employees.

Aside from having consultation, a leisure Center would be a great place for all employees who

don’t have much time going out of vacation due to increase in workload. This will allow the

employees to have a scheduled time of visit to the leisure center to unwind and get out of their

workplace for a while, this includes a coffee area, lounge, play area, gym and spa which could be

included under the appreciation benefits.

Health and Wellness Program Highlights

Physical Wellbeing

This includes telemedicine services, diet and nutrition programs, fitness classes and

sports and gym facilities.

Using telecommunications technology, telemedicine enables medical professionals to

assess, identify, and treat patients from a distance. In case that the employee could not go and

visit the doctor or go to hospital. Telemedicine will provide convenience to the employee and

will allow them to check their physical wellbeing easily.

All employees are encouraged to eat healthily through a workplace nutrition program,

which places an emphasis on whole grains, fruits, vegetables, low-fat dairy products, lean meats,

poultry, and fish, as well as minimal amounts of salt, sugar, and saturated fat. The risk of several

chronic diseases, including heart disease, stroke, some malignancies, diabetes, and osteoporosis,

can be reduced with proper diet, according to studies. Therefore, implementation of having a

diet and nutrition programs in the employees is highly recommended.

Long workdays are common, and employees may spend a lot of time at their desks. Their

inactive lifestyles can have a variety of negative impacts, such as a higher risk of contracting

diseases. Although it is the duty of every employee to take care of her health, you have a stake in

encouraging a healthy workforce as an employer. Investing in a corporate gym is one approach

Talent Management Castro M., Nantin A., Villarba M. Holy Angel University

to increase the physical fitness of all the employees. The initial expense could be outweighed by

the long-term advantages.

Financial Wellbeing

This includes Financial Counseling/Coaching, stockholder opportunity, employees’ coop

and Retirement Plan.

Financial planning can be challenging, and occasionally we could all use a little

assistance. Getting financial counsel can simplify life, promote overall financial wellbeing, and

free up more time for your employees to pursue their passions. This includes assisting them in

utilizing all of their tax deductions so they don't pay more taxes than intended. Considering their

options for retirement and assisting them in managing their finances in retirement. All of this

counseling would also include giving them the assurance that their money is being properly

handled and making sure they're at ease with the amount of risk they're taking.

Occupational Wellbeing

This includes Open work setup and flexible schedule, career development plan and

pawternity leave.

This recommendation actually fits the newer generations. Knowing that these generations

are bound to explore new things, flexible work schedules and open work setup would potentially

be highly effective. However, flexible schedules only apply to those who do not have routine

work but can somehow be part of improvement in work schedules with proper negotiations.

Lastly, pawternity. This means that when the employees’ fur babies are sick or in other

conditions, this could equate to a valid filing of leave, especially the newest generation are seem
Talent Management Castro M., Nantin A., Villarba M. Holy Angel University

to be so attached to their fur babies, this could also fall under emotional wellbeing of the

employee.

Mental and Emotional Wellbeing

This includes HR Cares or 24/7 Help desk for employees, Chillax Lounge, spiritual

counselling and self-love perks and discounts.

All employees have access to a 24-hour help desk through HR Cares, allowing them to

call for assistance whenever they need to speak with someone. In order to have privacy, landlines

will be anonymous to avoid employees being uncomfortable to share or vent to the HR Care staff

in charge. Chillax Lounge is where the employees are free to catch up with their workmates

without thinking of any work related issues and concerns. This also includes the Multiple

Dimension such as fun and games area, hobby clubs and other things that an employee could

enjoy.

Your physical wellbeing is only one aspect of health; mental and spiritual well-being are

equally important. Spiritual activities can assist employees in returning to a balanced, calm state

when work deadlines or the status of the work may make you feeling stressed and anxious. We

get more clarity in our daily decisions, our behaviors become more consistent with our beliefs,

and we generally feel more stable and certain when we align ourselves with our spiritual

wellness through spiritual activities.,

The modern workplace is made up of five generations, each of which has its own

expectations and viewpoints. It's crucial to comprehend how generational disparities can impact

your team and company culture, whether it is a private or a government organization, as the

nature of work continues to change. Therefore, considering having a Health and Wellness
Talent Management Castro M., Nantin A., Villarba M. Holy Angel University

Program for different generations will be able to have at least the same benefit for them after all

those hardships and misunderstandings as the age gap is a huge problem in present times.
