RESEARCH TITLE:
Saka na! Nakakatamad Pa: Impact of Mañana Habit on the Academic Productivity of
Second-Year Psychology Students of Cavite State University- Silang Campus

SHORT DESCRIPTION OF THE STUDY:

Procrastination in the Philippines is referred to as the "Mamaya na" practice or the

"Mañana habit" (Mejia, 2017). Menguin defined the mañana habit as the consistent disposition
or practice of postponing till tomorrow what can be done immediately. It is a manner of thinking
and acting that was learned through prior practice at task avoidance. Despite being frequently
seen as a sign of laziness, even hard-working individuals may experience it.
Lastiri, L. (2022) stated that productivity refers to students' efforts and ability to perform
efficiently in their studies. This includes their time management skills, ability to prioritize, and
overall contribution to academic success. Furthermore, time management for students (and
everyone else) is about making each day count. It is about taking control of your time and
optimizing it for focus, productivity, and, most importantly, balance. Effective time management
allows a student to focus more at school/college/university, increasing efficiency and allowing
them to accomplish more in less time which can make their day productive. (Simplilearn, 2022)
People have grown less motivated and productive due to the mañana habit (Students
academic performance Research Paper, 2016). It could cause people, especially students, to
procrastinate or put off doing their work or other important tasks (Amante, et. al, 2018). Hence,
learners might not make any progress in their studies, which could result in poor academic
performance (Ojo, 2019).
