    Mount Semeru eruption today

    Based on a report from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG),
    Mount Semeru in Lumajang experienced an eruption this morning with a plume of ash as high as
    400 meters above the peak.

    PVMBG in an official statement said: "The eruption of Mount Semeru occurred on Monday, was
    observed at the height of the ash plume ± 400 m asl (± 4076 m asl).

    Based on observations, the ash plume is white to gray with moderate intensity to NE. This eruption
    was also recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 22 mm and a duration of 64
    seconds.

    PVMBG also appealed to the public to stay away from the southeastern peak (eruption center) along
    Besuk Kobokan so as not to carry out any activity.
