Introduction

 The introduction only contains preliminary data about the research topic and does not
state the purpose of the study. On the contrary, the background clarifies the importance of
the study in detail.
 The introduction provides an overview of the research topic from a broader
perspective, while the background provides a detailed understanding of the topic.
 The introduction should end with the mention of the research questions, aims, and
objectives of the study. In contrast, the background follows no such format and only
provides essential context to the study.

Background of the study

In the 21st century, there are numerous advancements and inventions in technology that
change the way we live, and of those is social media. Social media revolutionized the way we
connect and interact with our peers. It is one of the most powerful tools today that enables us to
connect to almost anyone, create a community, and enables us to share our thoughts and opinions
freely. In the Philippines, there are around 80 million active social media users out of 110 million
of the total population. On the other hand, at the same time, social media users grow, and their
average time spent daily extends; the rate of mental health issues, such as depression, anxiety,
and stress, is significantly increasing. Therefore this study seeks to answer how social media use
affects people's mental health, especially students, and to confirm whether or not social media
use and mental health issues among students are correlated.

Significance of the Study

The aim of this study is to determine whether social media use is correlated to mental
health problems. The findings of the study will inform students of General Mariano Alvarez
Technical High School on how social media use influence their mental health, as well as how
their mental health is importance for their academic performance.

Scope and limitations

The purpose of this study is to confirm whether social media use is related to an increased
rate of mental health problems in students of General Mariano Alvarez Technical High School.
This study is delimited only for grade seven to grade twelve students MASYADO PO
YAN MALAWAK . BE SPECIFIC PO KUNG SINO ANG RESPONDENTS NINYO.. GRADE
12 HUMSS STUDENT OR GRADE 11 HUMSS STUDENT OR GRADE 7 LANG .. of
General Mariano Alvarez Technical High School academic year 2022-2023. Therefore, students
from other schools or students from past academic years are not included in this research.
While doing this research, some respondents may have used fake or non-genuine
information, which could result in unreliable information which could weaken the evidence. As a
result, in order to maintain reliable data, The researchers will create strict instructions and
agreement in order to keep honest responses.

Research Hypothesis
Dito po kung ano po yung nakalagay sa sub questions ninyo yun po ang gagawan ninyo ng
hypothesis. Yan po aksi ang kukuhaan ninyo ng mga data..
Search po kayo ng kapareho po ng research problem po ninyo para meron kayong idea ano
gagawin.

The null hypothesis of a test always predicts no effect or no relationship between variables,
while the alternative hypothesis states your research prediction of an effect or relationship.

This study assumes that social media use is directly correlated to the suddenly increased
rate of mental health problems in students of General Mariano Alvarez Technical High School
because of building poor social media habits such as comparing oneself to others, fear of missing
out, and the need for social validation.

Definition of Terms
Social media: websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or
to participate in social networking.
Mental health: Mental health is a state of mental well-being that enables people to cope
with the stresses of life, realize their abilities, learn well and work well, and contribute to their
community
Academic performance: Academic performance is the measurement of student
achievement across various academic subjects. Teachers and education officials typically
measure achievement using classroom performance, graduation rates and results from
standardized tests.
