address the needs of learners from indigenous groups
PROMPT #2
Design a lesson plan for your class that integrates aspects of indigenous peoples (IP) culture using national
mandates on indigenous peoples education (IPEd) as reference:
• Republic Act No. 8371 or the Indigenous People’s Rights Act of 1997
• DepEd Order No. 62, S. 2011 or the Adopting the National Indigenous Peoples (IP) Education Policy
Framework
• DepEd Order No. 32, S. 2015 or the Adopting the Indigenous Peoples (IP) Education Curriculum Framework

The integration of IP culture in the lesson plan must be highlighted and annotated in this reflection form.

YOUR ANNOTATIONS

We, teachers, help the learners hone the knowledge and skills they need as they pursue their careers and make
their own contributions to the world. We offer so much value—despite the job’s little promise of financial and
material rewards, especially here in the Philippines. It’s no wonder society recognizes teaching as a noble profession.
All the more for teachers who take on challenges in dealing with diversity of the students especially in terms of their
culture. We must be sensitive and exercise inclusive education especially with the Indigenous People (IP). We must
promote fairness inside and outside the school regardless of status in life, color of the skin, ethnicity and other factors.
That’s why in order for us to be called as an effective and efficient teacher we must design our lesson for everyone
considering the diversity of our learners. In line with this, I made a lesson that will promote inclusive education
especially with the Indigenous People (IP) specifically the aetas.

Here are the activities in my lesson plan:

Motivation: I will let my student to sing the song in tune of jingle bells. I can consider my IP students here by
teaching them the tune of jingle bells so that it will be easy for them to sing the song. Afterwards, I will let
them to sing on their own in front of class so that they will not feel that they are left behind.

Procedures

The lesson is all “The Earth’s Grid System”. We will be tackling about latitude and longitude of the earth
and the different place around it. I will let my IP students to share their insights about it.

As the discussion progresses I will ask questions intended for the IPs so that they will not feel that they
are left behind. For example, where country they want to go?

With the group activity, I will let the IPs to be mixed with other students so that they have the chance to
impart their ideas and it will serve as their voice in the activity.

For the generalization I asked a question for IPs about on how they can relate the importance of locating
places using latitude and longitude around their community.

In the evaluation part, they will answer questions about the lesson that we have. They are not excluded
with it because in the whole duration of the class I give importance on their ideas, insights and even their
cultures.

Lastly, for the assignment they will make their own “Community Map”. In this activity the IPs are able to
showcase the beauty of their community as well as the products they have.

Education is for everyone. We must always inculcate that thing in our minds. As teachers, we must
promote inclusive education because our learners are diverse. We must also give importance to these
Indigenous People because they played an important role in promoting our culture. One of the many
reasons why we need to appreciate the indigenous cultures is that they link us to the past. Through the
indigenous cultures we are able to learn the different and unique lifestyle that they live through every
day. They show us how we have progressed throughout time and they give us a trace of how life was
during the time of our ancestors. With this note, together as one community let us end the stigma of
exclusive education and start to promote the diversity of our learners.
