BSCE – 2ND BOTTOMLINE

1. Why is there a need to preserve the traditional Filipino or indigenous games?

In many Philippine communities, traditional games are seen as the most effective way to
"promote peace, harmony, kindness, and friendship." It is also a component of the steps taken
to acknowledge and defend the rights of indigenous people, among which is the right to
exercise their cultural heritage preservation rights. Traditional sports and games are a way to
spread the principles of inclusivity, diversity, fair play, and cultural sensitivity. Additionally,
it aids in the development of mathematical and logical thinking.

Filipinos have valued it as a cultural treasure for many centuries. It is a beloved past-time that
spans decades, from our grandparents to our parents to today's children and toddlers, and is
precious to the hearts of Filipinos. For future generations to carry on the heritage of these
traditional games for the next hereditary, we must preserve the information and knowledge
about them. The kids may gain a fresh perspective on Philippine culture and environment as a
result of these being presented in a new way, which aids in maintaining this significant aspect
of Filipino daily life. Playing Laro ng Lahi helps us develop our socialization skills and
appreciate the beauty of our distinctive culture. We are now genuinely laying a solid
foundation for a lasting relationship with our playmates or coworkers and making additional
pals. Additionally, it can benefit kids because they need competitiveness, creativity, social
skills, physical activity, and many other things. Simple children's games encourage their
development both physically and cognitively.

Flexibility, power, stability, reflexes, hand-eye coordination, accuracy, tact, intuition, and
patience. Indigenous hunters and fishermen relied on these talents to provide for their
communities. And those abilities were developed through play throughout adulthood after
being learned through games at a young age.

2. What can the government or schools do to preserve the Filipino traditional

games?

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), in collaboration with the
Department of Education (DepEd), is mandated by the statute to start taking action to protect
the traditional national games.

The bill requires the incorporation of games into the primary education system of
schools, the creation of beneficial documentaries or other materials, and the regular
exhibition of such games at important national gatherings and in relevant school functions.
To ensure the preservation and development of these games and to promote traditional
Filipino games like luksong tinik, sipa, tumbang preso, and patintero, the NCCA must study
the traditionally played sports by various indigenous communities within their territory. Kids
will be encouraged to learn and play traditional outdoor Filipino games by participating in
this Larong Pinoy, which promotes healthy competition.
