Back ground information of patient

68 years old
No specific systemic disease
No family history of specific disease
Went through oncological surgery , immune system should be monitored
No smoking
Wearing upper removable denture
Main compliant

Painless nodule on the surface of palatal mucosa


She didn’t know what it could be and she’s worry about it could be malignancy
History of the present compliant

Soft nodule on the right buccal mucosa


Lesions on the palate ( 19 years ago )
Uterus removal due to oncological reason ( 6 years ago )
Examnation

No specific finding in the extra-oral examination


No other intra-oral finding except the nodule on the palate
The nodule is firm and pink , roughly at size of 2mm in diameter
Its painless when being touched
Diagnosis

It could be fibroma or papilloma


It has to me comfirmed by histopathological examination
It could be related to the wearing of removable denture
Treatment

Surgical removal of nodules and sending it to histopathological exam


Excellent prognosis so far
Fibroma

Reactive hyperplasia due to mechanical damage of the soft tissue


Pink nodules with smooth surface
uncapsulated lesion with dense connective tissue underneath the epithelium
Rarely recurrent after resection
Papilloma

Related to HPV infection


Pedunculated lesion resembling broccoli by its appearance
Soft and painless , usually less smaller than 5mm in diameter
Has to be resected with soft tissue at its base
