those classes into formats(one of
which is this ebook) that can help
the Quran learning beginners
attain fluency in a few months or
even weeks!

All praise be to Allah, the Lord of the universe, and the peace and
blessings of Allah be upon His messenger Muhammed, his
household and his companions.

This book is meant to teach English-speaking students how to

spell and pronounce the Arabic words and read the Quranic verses
correctly.

I covered the scope of studies in a systematic approach by

presenting the Arabic vowel-signs, then the letters combination
for words formation through the citation of some Quranic verses
and chapter . Exercises have been included where necessary to
ensure your participation and hence aid the retention of the topics
covered.

May Allah (s.w.t) make this book beneficial (Aameen).

The first three short vowels are fathah )ْ‫(الفتْ َحة‬
َ َّ
َْ ‫ (الك‬and the dommah )ْ‫الض َّْمة‬
the kesro )ْ‫سة‬ (

Fathah ‫ ﹷ‬is a stroke that is placed above a

letter while kesro ‫ ﹻ‬is placed below a letter and
domma ‫ ﹹ‬which looks like a small waw, is placed
above a letter.

www.alhudaaislamicschool.co 6
Fathah is pronounced as a short ‘a’ as in bat,
while kesro is pronounced as a short ‘i’ as in bit
and dommah is pronounced as a short ‘u’ as in
put. Here are these vowels used with the harful
baa.

has the same sound as b in ‘ball’ and when

the fathah is added to it, it becomes ba i.e b+a =
ba, it is pronounced as ‘bi when kesro is added to
it and as ‘bu’ when dommah is added to it.

CHAPTER TWO
TANWEEN
(NUNATION)
Tanween is called nunation in the English Language
because its formation is from the addition of a nun
that has no vowel-sign to each of the ba, bi and bu
sounds of the single short vowels to make them ban,
bin and bun sounds when they double.

Note: Alif usually comes with the double fathah of
the last letter of an Arabic word except when it is a
closed .
