1. What is the role of TOK in Biology?

Biology is a natural science an area of knowledge. The main role of a biology teacher is
to point out such examples when they arise in a topic. The candidate collects these pieces
of questions and constructs a TOK essay. Natural science tends to rely on sense
perception, reason, language and memory since most of the discoveries are made on the
basis of imagination and intuition.

2. Do you think that TOK can add value to how we teach Biology? If no, why not? If yes,
how so?

Yes of course TOK adds value to teaching biology. For example the word information is
very common in conversation, mass media, and also in science. Because the word
commonly talks about an informative age that we are living into, in media it refers to the
amount of information we get in google search and in biology it refers to the transfer of
genetic information from one generation to another. This indicates how TOK can be a
useful tool in teaching biology.

3. Do you think that there is a link between TOK and the nature of science statements in the
syllabus? Elaborate.

The nature of science section is one among the theory of knowledge under natural
sciences. This section is especially used by TOK teachers and science teachers in group 4
subjects. The NOS sections of the subject are examples of a particular understanding. The
statements above each topic outlines how NOS themes can be brought about by
understandings, applications and skills. They are linked to specific references in the NOS
section of the guide to support teachers in their understanding of the theme.
