Paul, 57

My dad explained his family consisted of his brother, his parents and himself. There were three
people on his fathers side. His mother lost her parents at the age of 6 so she was an orphan. They
lived in Castricum. He told that he only remembers the oil crisis that was going on when he was
younger and that on some Sundays they weren’t allowed to drive their car. This event impressed him
because he saw pictures and videos of children skating on the highway because there were no cars.

He mentioned that he sometimes ate pasta like macaroni or rice, but mostly meat vegetables and
potatoes. But he did not eat rice very often because he didn’t like it. He ate bread in the mornings
and evenings and a warm meal during lunch time.

He said his father had an supermarket so they got all of their food over their. He played judo until he
was 10 and then he played football until he was 15 he didn’t like football anymore so he became an
lifeguard on the beach of Castricum.

He told me that the only thing his school did for his physical health was giving them physical health
education once a week.

He explained he never talked to anyone about mental health because it wasn’t really an issue. He
thinks it would have been an important topic if you had problems at home or at school but he didn’t
have that so it was not really important.
