Dick, 72

My grandpa said that he had a very busy family with 11 children and their parents and they lived
together in a house just two houses away from where he lives now. He also mentioned he doesn’t
remember any historical fact from when he was a teenager.

He explained his father grew their potatoes and kept them in a box so they could eat their potatoes
for the whole winter, and every Friday they had to eat fish because they were Catholic and were not
allowed to eat meat on Fridays. They also mostly ate soup before every meal. He told that his father
had a farm and they ate their breakfast after they milked the cows, then he had an warm meal most
of the time consisting of meat potatoes and vegetables, then they ate bread in the evening before
milking the cows. Then he explained they didn’t buy their food at a specific place and grew most of it
themselves.

He mentioned that he played football until he was 30. He had to stop because if he got an injury he
couldn’t work on his farm for a few weeks which he didn’t have time for. And said he had physical
education in school.

He told us he didn’t discuss metal health with anyone because their wasn’t a lot he had to talk about,
they also weren’t educated about it when he was younger so he didn’t even know what it meant. He
does think it is more important now then it was then.
