Background
The past few months have seen an unusual, recurring news item dominate
the media cycle, the Indian government taking on the American social
media corporation Twitter. Matters were kicked off when GOI
reprimanded Twitter for not complying with its order to block more than a
1000 accounts for alleged spread of proactive content and misinformation
on the farmers protest and many other such events. The Ministry of
Electronics and IT had announced new IT rules on February 25 and had
given the social media platforms three months to comply with the new
rules. The new rules came into effect on May 26. Since then, the
government has been in a tussle with Twitter over the compliance with

the new reforms.
Problem Statement
In the light of various points of conflict between the Union Government
and twitter in the last few months, and the concern expressed by Twitter
over these conflicts, Twitter claims to be working towards complying with
the guidelines.
1) What could be the possible reasons to show compliance to the decision
of GOI
2)While there are positive about this, there are equally glaring ambiguities
and susceptibilities. Highlight the various issues.
3) Give your suggestion on how to strike a balance between the two, in
these times when social media plays a tremendous role in driving public
sentiments, businesses and public order of the nation.
