MASONRY UNIT COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH:

SABS 0164 - 1992 Part I - Tables 3a) & 3b)

Nominal strength = 14MPa.

Non-modular hollow grouted brick, aspect ratio of 0.9 with 70% solid material
Masonry unit embedded in a 10mm thick, Class II mortar.
Characteristic compressive strength, fk = 6.38MPa fk=6.38MPa
Grout strength should be at least 6.38MPa

CHECK MOMENT CAPACITY:

CHECK SHEAR CAPACITY:

SABS 0164 - 1992 Part II - §6.2.4.1.1 & §8.2.3

Shear resistance, Vr = 13.82kN > Vu = 8.35kN. OK

CHECK LOCAL BOND CAPACITY:

SABS 0164 - 1992 Part II - §6.2.7

Bond resistance exceeds bond stress, 1.07MPa > 0.6MPa. OK

CHECK LIMITING DIMENSIONS AND LATERAL STABILITY:

SABS 0164 - 1992 Part II - §7.2.3.3

Simply supported beams, limiting span to depth ratio = 20

Actual span to depth ratio = 5.57 < 20 OK
Span = 2000mm < 6000mm, beam is laterally stable. OK
