HARMONIC FIFTHS STUDIES

• With your right hand, play a fifth starting on the C note (C is the lowest note in the interval), then take
your hand away and play a fifth starting on the next C on the right (higher pitched). This is an octave
jump (we play the same notes in different regions.
• Practice octave jumps with the right hand, the left hand, and hands together in oblique, parallel, and
contrary motion.
If you can't perform all the exercises on the first day, don't worry. This is a increased skill that you will
improve as you study more often. Try rehearsing these exercises once or a few times a day, or in some other
regularity that you can maintain. On time you will memorize the reflexes.
