2. Accomplishment Instructions
A. General
WARNING: BEFORE USING ANY OF THE MATERIALS SPECIFIED IN HAMILTON
SUNDSTRAND MAINTENANCE PUBLICATIONS, BE AWARE OF ALL HANDLING,
STORAGE, AND DISPOSAL PRECAUTIONS RECOMMENDED BY THE
MANUFACTURER OR SUPPLIER. FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH
MANUFACTURER’S OR SUPPLIER’S RECOMMENDATIONS MAY RESULT IN
PERSONAL INJURY OR DISEASE.
THE USER OF THIS PUBLICATION SHOULD OBTAIN THE MATERIAL SAFETY
DATA SHEETS (OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ACT (OSHA) FORM 20
OR EQUIVALENT) FROM THE MANUFACTURERS OR SUPPLIERS OF
MATERIALS TO BE USED. THE USER MUST BECOME COMPLETELY FAMILIAR
WITH THE MANUFACTURER OR SUPPLIER INFORMATION AND ADHERE TO
THE PROCEDURES, RECOMMENDATIONS, WARNINGS, AND CAUTIONS OF THE
MANUFACTURER OR SUPPLIER FOR THE SAFE USE, HANDLING, STORAGE,
AND DISPOSAL OF THESE MATERIALS.
B. APUs listed in Section 1 that have reached the recommended cycle or hour limit shall be returned to
Hamilton Sundstrand, San Diego, CA., or to a Hamilton Sundstrand authorized service center, for
engine repair according to the following definition:
Repair of the engine consists of the replacement of the turbine wheel and any other life limited
parts that have insufficient life remaining to reach the next anticipated replacement of the new
turbine wheel.
Repair also includes the limited "as required" disassembly, inspection and repair of any
component of the APU where the service history is such that there is not reasonable
confidence that the component will operate without malfunction in the APU until the anticipated
life of the new turbine wheel.
C. Operators of APUs with no cycle (event/start) counter should perform the following steps to
determine the total APU cycles.
(1) Operate the APU normally for a minimum of twenty (20) APU hours cumulative.
(2) Note the corresponding number of cycles.
(3) Determine the cycles to hours ratio (cycles divided by hours).
(4) Determine the total accumulated APU cycles. (Multiply the total APU hours by the ratio obtained
in Step 3.
(5) Make appropriate entry in the APU logbook to reflect proper cycle limits.
NOTE: It is recommended that a Start / Event Counter be installed on the APU at the next
opportunity. Refer to the applicable APU Engine Manual and / or Aircraft Maintenance
Manual.

NOTE: It is the responsibility of the operator to maintain an accurate accounting of the APU hours and
cycles as may be required by the FAA or other airworthiness authority.
NOTE: All other components of the APU are replaced on an as-needed basis.
Note 1: Refer to Hamilton Sundstrand Service Bulletin SB-T-62T-49-148 for the replacement schedule
and cycle-life-limit of compressor wheel, part number 100636-1.
Note 2: Refer to Hamilton Sundstrand Service Bulletin SB-T-62T-49-120 for cycle limit of compressor
wheel part numbers 162690-1, 165111-1, and 167200-1.
Note 3: Contact Hamilton Sundstrand Power Systems if compressor wheel part number 160636-1 or
100918-1 has greater than 3000 cycles.
Note 4: These are the preliminary starting points for these new components, based on engineering
evaluation data. As empirical data is received from operators, these numbers will be adjusted
accordingly.
Note 5: The cycle-life-limit for part number 100636-1 compressor wheels that were manufactured from
cast steel has been reduced to 2,600 cycles. These wheels do not have bore or backface cuts.
The cycle-life-limit for part number 100636-1 compressor wheels that were manufactured from
wrought (bar stock steel) steel has been reduced to 4,100 cycles. These wheels do not have
bore or backface cuts.
The cycle-life-limit for part number 4503164 compressor wheels is 4,100 cycles. These are
new wrought wheels without bore or backface cuts.
The cycle-life-limit for part number 4504174 compressor wheels is 7,200 cycles. These are
newly designed wrought wheels with bore and backface cuts.
The cycle-life-limit for part number M4504174 compressor wheels is 7,200 cycles. These are
reworked part number 100636-1 or 4503164 wrought wheels with bore and backface cuts
added.
