1 GENERAL

1.1 Scope

This standard refers at cold drawn round wire, having a smooth surface (STNB symbol), utilized for concrete
reinforcement, as nets and welded case and also as brackets.

1.2 Designation

The designation of cold drawn round wire for concrete reinforcement shall be done by mention of the symbol
and the diameter of the drawn round wire followed by the number of this standard.

2.2 Material

Cold drawn round wire for concrete reinforcement is made of OL 34, OL 37, OL 42 and OL 44, according to
STAS 500/2-80.

NOTE - Cold drawn wires with diameter smaller than 6 mm shall be tested by alternative bending on a rod with radius
according to STAS 1177-90 and must resist at a minimum of four alternatives bending without show down visible cracks.

2.4 Aspect

2.4.1 The surface of cold drawn round wire shall not present flaws, which can diminish the specified
mechanical characteristics.

2.4.2 It is admitted on the wire surfaces thin oxides strains provided that, after their removal, the diameter
of wire must be within the limits specified in table 1.

2.4.3 Surface local flaws admitted like: dislevelments, crushing, scratches or roughness provided that the
maximum depth of these does not exceed the limit deviation for that diameter.

3 RULES AND METHODS FOR QUALITY CONTROL

3.1 The quality control is performed on batches. A batch is constituted of the wire coming from the same
steel grade and having the same diameter. The mass of the batch is of max. 7 t, for the wire with diameter up to
5 mm, included, and of max. 10 t for a diameter above 5 mm.

3.2 The test pieces for the mechanical and technological characteristics checking are cut of the coil, after
the removal of 500 mm from its end. In litigation case, the test pieces are cut of any parts of the coil indicated
by the user.

3.3 Tests and testing proportion, testing methods and interpretation of results are according to table 3.

4 DELIVERY, PACKING, MARKING, DOCUMENTS

4.1 Delivery

The cold drawn round wire is done in coils, according to table 4.

NOTE - It can be admitted the delivery of a max. 15 % of the coils of wire number with reduced mass.

4.2 Package

Cold drawn round wire for concrete reinforcement shall be delivered unpacked. Each coil must be
wired up with mild wire in minimum 3 places. The ends of coils must be bend to into so that they can be easily
found. By agreement between parties, the wire coils can be delivered packed in the stipulated by contract
conditions.

4.3 Marking

Each coils must bear a metallically label well wired up, having the following inscriptions:
- trademark or the manufacturing enterprise;
- the number of the batch;
- designation, according to this standard;
- quality control representative sign.

4.4 Documents

Each delivery batch must be accompanied by the quality certification document, made up according
to the valid legal disposition.
