COURSE & YR.: LAB. EXERCISE NO. 9 DS:

I. ESTIMATE OF EROSION USING THE UNIVERSAL SOIL LOSS EQUATION

(USLE)
(Provide a Brief Introduction)

II. OBJECTIVE

1. To use the Universal Soil Loss Equation in estimating erosion in a given

watershed.

III. PROBLEM

Use the USLE to compute the amount of soil loss (mg/ha-year) from a contoured field at
your present location (R= 3000). Assume a slope of 6 percent, C = 0.2, and K = 0.03
Mg/ha-year with a slope length of 150 m.

If aside from contouring, terraces with graded outlets will be also constructed, will there
be a reduction in soil loss? Explain your answer.
