Course Description (1)
 Business policy is an integrative capstone
course for undergraduate business major
students. The goal of the course is to learn the
fundamentals of how to strategically manage
organizations.
 Business policy involves answering two
questions:
 (1) What business or businesses should we be in?
 (2) Within a particular business, how should we
compete?

Course Description (2)

 The unit of analysis is not one single functional


area, but rather the entire organization.

 To effectively teach strategic management,


both lecture and case studies are used to
combine theory with application. By case-
based method learning, we hope to nurture
the analytical capability of students in the
strategy formulation and decision making.

Course Objectives
 To learn and apply the principles, concepts and theories
of strategic management to solve complex business
problems.
 To understand how to leverage interrelationships among
business functions to gain competitive advantage.
 To analyze complex, unstructured qualitative and
quantitative problems, using appropriate tools.
 To express ideas clearly, logically and persuasively
through class participation during case discussions.

 隨堂測驗 (40%,4次測驗,每次10%)

 Case Study 小組討論(12%,共4個個案,每次3%)

Case Study 小組討論 (12%)


 Students will be organized into teams (10
different teams for each case) and discuss each
case.

 Peer evaluation: Team members will evaluate


one another’s contribution to their performance
of discussion. The average score of team
members’ evaluations will be a student’s “case
study” grade.

專題報告 (30%)

 階段一:說明(1) 公司的價值單元組合;(2) 公司的策


略形態與策略要素。

 階段二:針對所指定的產品及市場區隔分別提出策略
矩陣分析之三個策略模組。

 Powerpoint slides and word file are expected.

 每階段之個人成績為分組成績*互評結果/10。

 每班人數均分成4組 (A、B、C、D) 。

 每組可彈性分配為12人(2組) 、13人(2組) 。

 階段一、階段二之分工由各小組自行決定。
