< Question 1 > ( 6 points )

Figures mentioned below shows flow-chart and psychrometric chart on cooling mode of air
conditioning. Please answer the following questions of (1) through (5).

[ Calculation conditions to get capacity required ]

a. Air conditioned floor area is 400 m2, occupancy rate by people is 0.2 person/m2,
and OA volume required is 25 m3/hr.person. ( 14.7 cfm/person )
b. Indoor sensible cooling load is 23,000 kcal/hr ( 91,271.36 B.T.U./hr ) while air conditioned.
c. Specific heat under constant pressure of air is 0.24 kcal/kg.°C, density of air is 1.2 kg/m3
d. Ignore heat gain from fan and duct system.

(1) Please get OA volume ( m3/hr ) or ( cfm )

400 m2 x 0.2 P /m2 x 25 m3 /hr.P = 2,000 m3/hr

(2) Get SA volume ( m3/hr ) or ( cfm )

23,000 / [ 0.24 x 1.2 x ( 20 – 13 )] = 11,408 m3 /hr

L-1 No. 16/ 16 May 2015

(3) Get enthalpy ( kcal/kg ) or ( B.T.U./kg ) at mixing point of OA and RA

( at point in Figure - 1 & 2 )

Enthalpy == ( 11.0 x ( SA - OA ) + 20.0 x OA ) / SA

= ( 11.0 x ( 11,408 - 2,000 ) + 20.0 x 2,000 ) / 11,408
= 12.58 kcal/kg

(4) Get OA cooling load ( kcal/hr ) or ( B.T.U./hr )

1.2 x OA x ( ① - ② )
= 1.2 x 2,000 x ( 20.0 - 11.0 ) = 21,600 kcal/hr

(5) Get cooling capacity required ( kcal/hr ) or ( B.T.U./hr )

1.2 x SA x ( ③ - ④ )
= 1.2 x 11,408 x ( 12.58 - 8.0 ) = 62,698 kcal/hr

b). Please state one each of advantage and disadovantage of Reverse Return Piping System
as conposed to Direct Return Piping Systen. (4 points)
[Answer colume]
1). Advantage (2 point)
Reverse Return Piping System is easier for regulating the water flow rates.

The supply and return main pipe line carry the water in the same direction.

2). Disadvantage (2 point)

Piping cost is increased
more installation space required
