We use the numerals 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 to write a number. We also call them
digits. We can combine any of the digits to form a number.

Therefore, the value of 3 in the ten thousand place is 30, 000.


4 in the thousand place is 4,000.
3 in the hundreds place is 300
0 in the tens place is 0
5 in the ones place is 5
We can only put one digit in each place value. So, what is the greatest digit we can
put in a place value?
What is the least digit we can put in a place value?

Things to remember:
• Every digit has its own value which is determined by its place in the
number.

• There are two periods for 6-digit numbers, namely, units and
thousands.

In Reading and writing numbers, identify their place value and value of the
numbers.
In time of Enhanced Community Quarantine, a total of 369, 296 relief goods
were delivered in 6 Barangays in Manila.
369, 296 is a number written in standard form. It can be written in two different ways
– in words and expanded form.
1. Given numeral: 369, 296 in words is Three hundred sixty - nine thousands
two hundred ninety – six
in expanded form is 300,000 + 60,000 + 9,000 + 200 + 90 + 6
2. Given numeral: 43,571 in words is forty – three thousands five hundred
seventy – one
In expanded form is 40,000 + 3,000 + 500 + 70 + 1

When comparing numbers with the same numbers of digits the digits are compared
one by one, starting at the left.
SEE THE TWO VENDORS, what do they have?
Vendor 1 sold 200 apples, 150 oranges, Vendor 2 sold 250 apples, 160 oranges,
120 watermelons and 200 mangoes 120 watermelons and 210 mangoes
with a total of 670 fruits. with a total of 740 fruits.

Who is selling the greater number of fruits?


Who is selling the lesser number of fruits?
We say 670 is less than 740
We write 670 < 740
We compare the hundred place.
We think of place value.
We think of place value when we compare numbers.
Can you tell why 740 is greater than 670?
Things to remember:
• We can think of place value when we compare numbers.
• We use the symbols >,< and = when we compare numbers. We can
think of the sign = to mean “the same as”
When we compare numbers there are certain things we need to
remember:
• When we compare numbers with different number of digit the
number with more digit is greater.
• We compare the digits starting from the left. If they are the same
digit and number, we compare the next digit and remaining number.
• When we compare numbers with the same number of digits, we
compare the digits of the numbers in the same place value.
