Prerequisite(s):

Course Description
In-depth examination of human resources management from a strategic perspective. Topics
examined include Affirmative action and Equal Employment opportunities, Job Analysis,
recruitment, selection, training and development, performance management and appraisal,
compensation, Safety and Health, legal issues, labor relations and Global Human Resource
Management. In addition to providing more details in terms of content, this course will be an
active learning approach. Students will also spend a great deal of time in class discussing
ideas, participating in exercises, and practicing the skills necessary to perform well in this
class and beyond.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate an understanding of the contribution of HRM in relation to organizations
and stakeholders.
2. Apply specialized knowledge of some areas of HRM, including social and ethical
considerations.
3. Formulate some strategies to assist in the effective management of people.
4. Articulate ideas clearly to demonstrate an effective persuasive oral presentation, suited for
the business context

Attendance Policy
1. Attendance: In accordance with University policy on class attendance, class attendance is
required and will be monitored. Students who miss class will naturally get lower grades. Once an
FA is received there can be no changes made.

GUST Attendance Policy is as follows:


 A student will receive a first warning if missing 3 hours.
 A student will receive a second warning if missing 6 hours.
 A student may receive a dismissal (FA) if missing 9 hours.

2. Make Up: As a general policy of this class there are no make ups for quizzes, projects and any
ad-hoc assignments given in class. Students that do not turn in the assignments on the due dates
as announced will get no grade for this assignment. However, if with proper documentation the
student maybe given the opportunity to make up an exam. This must be done in accordance with
the University Policy.

3. Excused absences: As per university policy, NO FAs removed.

4. Special Requirements: None

ID card problems: In case you attend the class without swiping because of any problem related to
your ID card, you must inform the professor during the class and by email. Otherwise, your
attendance would not be considered.

work, assignments and assessments. Effective planning and progress must be accomplished for
students to be successful in their degree program of study. Submission of work from another person,
whether it is from printed sources or someone other than the student; previously graded papers; papers
submitted without proper sources citation; or submitting the same paper to multiple courses without
the knowledge of all instructors involved can result in a failing grade or be reported to the appropriate
administrative entities for appropriate sanctions or disciplinary actions. You are expected to maintain
the standards as set forth in the Student Code of Conduct and Statement on Academic Honesty.
