Q2 What is the difference between Client Server and Peer-to-peer

architecture?

Client Server Peer-to-Peer

called CLIENTS.

2: It is generally set up in banks etc. 2: It is generally set up among few

computers.

3: It is not easy to set up. 3: It is easy to set up.

Q3 What is the difference between Wired and Wireless Network technology?

Long question answers

Q1 What is networking? Give two advantages.

Ans: Computer networking is a concept where two or more computers are

connected with each other through some communication medium to share
their information and resources with each other.

Two advantages are:-

1:- Speed:- Sending and receiving files using a computer network is rapid.

2:- Security:- Sensitive files and programs on a network are protected by

password.
Q2 What are the disadvantages of connecting computers in a network?

Ans:- Some disadvantages are:-

1:- If the server develops a fault then user may not be able to run the
application programs and chance of data loss is more.

2:- If the network stops then the computers connected to network cannot be
used.

3: It becomes difficult to manage , as the number of computers on a network

increase.

Q3 What are the different components of a computer network? Explain them

briefly.

Ans: The different components of a computer network are:-

(i) SERVER- It is a computer that manages the network resources, files

and software.
(ii) WORKSTATION- It is a computer for individual use in a networking
environment.
(iii) NETWORK INTERFACE CARD(NIC)- It is a piece of hardware mounted
on motherboard which allow computers to communicate over a
computer network.
(iv) Hub- It is a device that connects multiple devices and makes them
work as a single network segment which transfers data from hub to
the other connected computers.

Q4 What is topology? Give examples.

Ans: The physical arrangement of the cables, computers and other peripheral
devices to form a network is called topology.

The three topologies are:-

(i) Bus topology

(ii) Star topology
(iii) Ring topology

Q5 Explain the different types of topologies used in computer networks.

(i) Bus Topology- It is made up of main single cable with terminators at

both ends .Computers and the other devices including the server, are
connected to this linear cable.
(ii) Star Topology-In this all workstations are connected to a central
connection point called HUB. Hub transfers the data received by it to
the destination computer.
(iii) Ring Topology- In this every workstation has exactly two neighbours
for communication. All messages travel through a ring in the same
direction either clockwise or anticlockwise.

EXTRA QUESTIONS

Q1 How is Switch smarter than hub?

Ans HUB transfers the data received from NIC to all the computers
whereas SWITCH transfer data to specific computer.

Q2 Write short note on CAN.

Ans CAN (Campus Area Network )connects multiple LANs confined
within a campus.CAN is smaller network than MAN. For eg different
colleges connected in the same university campus is an example of
CAN.

Q3 How many types of twisted pair cables are there? Name them.
Ans There are two types of twisted pair cables. They are Shielded
Twisted Pair(STP) and Unshielded Twisted Pair.
