Dear Editor-in-Chief,

Please find enclosed our manuscript, “[Is the ratio of c-reactive protein/albumin at the

admission on hospital treatment sufficient parameter for the evaluation of disease progression

in covid-19 patients?]” by [Jelena Aritonovic-Pribakovic] et al., which we would like to

submit for publication in Bosnian Journal of Basic Medical Sciences

This study showed that patients with severe form of the disease and need for treatment in
intensive care unit had increased values of CRP and CRP/albumin ratio already at the
moment of hospital admission, while the albumin level was decreased. A reduced level of
albumin with an acceptable discriminatory power may be an indicator of the development of
a severe clinical picture with the need for the treatment in ICU. These results are very
important since only a few studies explored this topic. Futrthermore, these results are
valuable since they direct physicians to fast and inexpensive laboratory analysis based on
which patients with severe hypoalbuminemia can be referred to semi-intensive care instead of
general treatment units at the moment of admission. Also, further studies should take into
consideration whether correction of hypoalbuminemia at the moment of admission improves
disease outcome in patients with COVID-19.

There is no conflict of interest.
