EILTS Writing British council

Task 2

Some tend to believe that experimentations on animals in any way shape or form are
unacceptable and should be bound by law, whereas others justify the experiments on animals
by the potential discovery of important scientific information. I tend to believe scientific
progress doesn’t justify those experiments as it puts many species on the verge of extinction
while also non-consensually compromising the lives of innocent animals. Furthermore, hiring
human volunteers is a much more effective and ethically correct solution.

An obvious point to consider is the fact that animals physically cannot consent to any
experiments or tests performed on them and are held in a laboratory by brute force and some
of the animals were born in those laboratories to begin with. Not to mention the fact that
stripping animals of the ability to live in their natural habitat is highly immoral and can lead to
many species going extinct in a very short amount of time.

One more argument worthy of consideration is the fact that hiring human volunteers is a much
more effective and ethical solution that can benefit all parties involved. Firstly, it is much more
effective since the results from testing of products intended for human use would be evaluated
best when tested on humans themselves. Secondly, all humans have the ability to make a
choice, meaning none of them would be examined against their will. Finally, all volunteers are
handsomely rewarded for their efforts, so not only does this option more efficient and ethically
acceptable it can also do a great service to those in a financially troubling situation.

To conclude, in my opinion no form of animal testing can be justified due to animals being
examined and studied against their will and in expense of their natural lifestyle which is
extremely immoral. Especially when hiring human volunteers is a more ethical, efficient option
which it also beneficiary for both scientists and the volunteers themselves.
