Katherine Mansfield Murry was a modernist writer born and
brought up in New Zealand when she was 19 she moved and
settled in England. her famous works include the garden
party ,Bliss, prelude and Many More

Narrator- the story starts with the little girl kezia who was so
petrified of his father that he sighed a sense of relief when
he left for work. in the evening when he come back Kesia’s
mother said
Mother-if you’re a good girl you can come down and take off
father’s boots.
Narrator- kezia come downstairs and slipped down the hall
and took off his father's boots. kezia's father asked
Father- Have you been a good girl today
Kezia-I d-d-don’t know, Father.”
Narrator- she never stuttered with other people. kezia
portrait her own father as a giant - his hands and his neck
especially his mouth when he yawned
on every Sunday afternoon grandmother said
Grandmother- Go down and have a nice talk with father and
mother
Narrator- But the little girl found her mother reading and his
father stretched out on the sofa with handkerchief on his
face. Kezia patiently waited for her father to wake up sitting
on a stool nearby. Grandmother on a cold day grandmother
suggested
Grandmother- father's birthday is next week I think you
should make him a pin cushion with a beautiful piece of
yellow silk as a loving gesture
Narrator- While making the pin cushion she needed
something she wandered into Mother’s bedroom and
discorved many sheets of fine paper gathered them
up, tore them into tiny pieces, and stuffed her cushion. That
every night
Father-Where have my papers went, they held my great
speech for the Port Authority.
Narrator- rooms where searched
Mother-Kezia, I suppose you didn’t see some papers on a
table in our room?
Kezia-actually I did and made them up for my filling of the
pillow
Narrator-father got furious mother tried to calm him down
and sent kezia upstairs.
Narrator- Father got so furious that he even beat her with a
ruler
Grandmother clamed her down
Narrator-kezia saw macdonald playing tag with his 5 children
seeing that she decided there were sorts of father
Suddenly one day mother became ill and was admitted to the
hospital grandmother was with her to take care of her in
hospital .Kezia was left alone in the house.She was alright in
the daytime thanks to alice the cook.Alice put her to bed and
leaves Kezia usually gets a nightmare of a butcher with a
knife, grandma used to clam her down.She got the same
nightmare that night to and woke up crying
Kezia- Grandma gradmaaa
Father- What’s the matter
Kezia act(she could not stop crying)
Narrator- father layed down beside her and snuggled her
head under his arms
Narrator- The next morning kezia realiesd and said
Kezia- “my head’s on your heart. I can hear it going. What a big heart
you’ve got, Father dear.”
