Rabbana zalamna anfusana wa-in lam taghfir lana
watarhamnalanakoonanna mina alkhasireen

Reciting this dua has many benefits.

It’s one thing to pay lip service, someone teaching you the Arabic words
to this dua when you’re a non-native Arab speaker will bring some
blessings. But now you know the english meaning of the popular
rabbana zalamna anfusana dua which makes it more meaningful and
effective.

To know you are among “the losers” and to admit this is a powerful
acceptance of your own flaws. Allah loves those who are humble and
do not boast.

Rabbana afrigh alayna sabran wa thabbit aqdamana wansurna alal-qawmil-
kafirin
This beauty of this dua is that it asks Allah to drench us in sabr, i.e. to
completely empty or pour upon us patience. As mentioned in ayah 249,
Allah is with those who have sabr, and a small army who has Allah can
overcome a larger one.

It continues by then requesting Allah to ‘plant our feet firmly’, which

could mean give us strength, bravery, and courage. These are all things
necessary to combat the enemy, to stand your ground and to not be
easily swayed. To have a good foundation requires sturdiness,
otherwise you would just topple over and allow people to walk all over
you. So Allah, we ask for you to plant firmly our feet.

taj`al fee qulubina ghillan lilathina amanu rabbana innaka ra'ufun rahim

By seeking forgiveness before Allah you are humbling yourself allowing

for the Mercy of Allah subhana wa ta’ala to flow. This dua begins by
specifically asking Allah to forgive us of our guilty deeds, our sins of
excesses, from transgressing our duties.
